Explore more →The portafilter slides into the fork, a quiet sensor responds, and within about a second the piston lowers – perfectly level, at exactly the pressure you set. No uneven puck, no tired wrist, no difference between the first shot and the fiftieth.
The Cinoart PTB-MY tamps automatically: you set the pressure digitally, from 2 to 38 kg in 1-kg increments, slide in the portafilter, and an optical sensor triggers the process without contact. The patented Guide Leveling System guides the piston so it always meets the coffee grounds perfectly level. On request, it compresses over one, two or three cycles – keeping grounds away from the rim of the portafilter.
It's designed as an under-grinder solution for Mythos and Anfim grinders; with the included adapter plate, it also fits Compak and Markibar. This creates a continuous path from grinding to tamping, without ever setting the portafilter down.

When hot water hits the puck at around 9 bar, it seeks the path of least resistance. An uneven or crooked tamp favors channeling: at the weakest point, water shoots through and over-extracts there, while the rest of the puck stays under-extracted. A homogeneously compressed puck lets water pass through more evenly – the result is usually a denser body and a calmer crema. How large the effect turns out depends on grinder, bean and recipe; that's our observation, one of many.
Nobody needs an auto tamper – tamping by hand works fine. The PTB-MY pays off where consistency and speed matter: with many shots back to back, with different people working the machine, or when you want to spare your wrist. At just under 6 kg with a solid stance, it's a device that earns its spot on the counter and stays there.
For anyone who wants the same, level puck day after day – whether in a high-volume café or at home with a Mythos or Anfim grinder. And for anyone who wants to take one variable out of the equation, so only bean, grind size and recipe make the difference.
The PTB-MY works together with the rest of the workflow: matching grinders in our Coffee Grinders, a scale for dose and yield, affordable in the Normcore Collection or with an app in the Acaia Collection, and further puck preparation in the Normcore Collection.
It's designed for Mythos and Anfim grinders; with the included adapter plate, also for Compak and Markibar. For other grinders, we're happy to check compatibility with you.
A good starting point is around 20 kg; you adjust up or down depending on roast level and taste. What matters is repeatability – the PTB-MY delivers the chosen pressure the same way every time. That's a guideline, one recommendation among many.
Activate the cleaning mode daily, extend the piston and brush it off. The non-stick coating prevents coffee grounds from sticking.

As a roastery, we see tamping as one of the quietly underrated adjustment points: even small differences in pressure shift the extraction. When every puck is compressed the same way, the character of the bean comes through more clearly – with a full-bodied roast like Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight that often means denser chocolate notes. That's our recommendation, one of many.
