The knob every shift touches a hundred times
The selector knob is where the grinder is operated. It gets pressed or turned every day, by changing hands, often with damp fingers – and that is exactly why it is one of the first parts to show wear on an otherwise healthy MXD.
It rarely breaks all at once. First the markings fade, then the knob sits more loosely on its spindle, eventually the guide in the plastic breaks and it jams. It is supplied complete, i.e. with the parts that hold it in place.
When it is due
It is due when the knob wobbles or can be twisted out of position, when it sticks or no longer returns cleanly, when the plastic is cracked or broken, or when the markings have faded so much that operating the grinder becomes guesswork.

Important for installation
The knob sits on the control side, directly in front of the switch behind it. Before pulling it off, disconnect the grinder from the mains. If you need to work on the switch itself, leave that to a qualified technician – we deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here.
Who it is for
For businesses with an MXD in continuous use that want to replace a worn control part before it damages the switch behind it when it jams.
What goes with it
Related control parts in the Macap range are the rotary knob for the grind adjustment of the Leo 55 and the push button for the control wheel of the M4D. The whole category is under Macap and PuqPress spare parts, more grinder parts under Coffee grinder accessories and spare parts.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
We only wipe control parts with a damp cloth, never a wet one, and keep descaler away from them. What eats away the markings on knobs is almost always cleaning agent, not use – that is our routine, not a manufacturer specification. Afterwards there is a Nutty Delight, sometimes the Cozy Chocolate or the Very Nutty. The full selection is under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
Is the switch behind it included?
No. The selector knob is supplied as a control part. The switch behind it is a separate part.
What does complete mean here?
Our documentation lists the item as a complete selector knob without naming the individual parts. If you need to know exactly what is included, just ask us before ordering.
Does it also fit other Macap grinders?
Our documentation names the MXD. It says nothing about other models – send us a photo of the control side and we will check.
Can I replace it myself?
Pulling off the knob is usually straightforward, but it sits directly in front of the switch. We recommend installation by a qualified technician and, in any case, disconnecting the grinder from the mains.
Can I pick up the part from your shop?
Yes. We are in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a quick message saying which part you need and we will have it ready for you.
