Between the steam valve of the GB5 and the steam wand sits a short adapter. It forms the transition between two different connections and holds the seal that keeps the steam where it belongs. A small part in a hot, heavily stressed spot.
The adapter goes through every turn of the wand. If the wand is swivelled regularly, the thread works and the sealing seat wears out over the years. Then it hisses at the joint, the wand develops play, or it drips as soon as the machine is under pressure. At that point, retightening only helps for a short while. Part number A.1.005.

The adapter sits in a steam-carrying line. Unplug the machine, let it cool down completely and depressurise it before loosening anything – otherwise there is hot steam behind the valve. We deliberately do not provide step-by-step instructions here. When installing, make sure the sealing seat is clean and free of limescale, and do not use force when tightening: brass does not forgive that.
For workshops and businesses with a GB5 whose steam wand no longer seals at the connection – and for anyone who replaces the transition piece at the same time as the wand.
From our workshop
When a wand hisses at our workshops in Bern or Zurich, we check the sealing seat first, not the tightening torque. If you just keep tightening harder, you end up stripping the brass thread – and then a 35-franc part has turned into a valve costing many times as much. Espresso for thinking it over: Nutty Delight. This is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement.
Returns excluded
Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we'll check the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. Only the adapter is supplied. Tell us which version you have and we'll find the matching seal for it.
The connections have changed over the production years. Send us the serial number and we'll check the thread before we ship.
Not necessarily. Just as often it's the seal or a worn seat in the valve itself. Describe exactly where it hisses and we'll narrow it down.
Only on a cold, depressurised machine and with a gentle touch when tightening. If you're unsure, let a qualified technician do it.
Yes. We're in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Bring the serial number of your machine or the old part and we'll compare them right at the counter.
