La Marzocco Drain Box with Lid – an orderly path for waste water

A plumbed-in machine needs not only a water inlet but also a drain that takes up the waste water in an orderly way. That is exactly what this box does: it collects whatever comes from the drip tray and the drain hose and passes it on to the building's plumbing in a controlled way.

You never see it during operation, because it sits under or behind the counter. It only gets noticed when it leaks or the lid no longer closes properly – and then the bar starts to smell long before anyone takes a look.

When it's due

The most common reason for a replacement is a crack in the plastic or a lid that has warped and no longer sits flat. You notice both from damp edges and from a smell that cleaning won't get rid of.

Then there's new installation: anyone switching a machine to plumbed-in operation or rebuilding their workstation needs the box as an installation part rather than as a replacement. In both cases it's worth checking the drain hose at the same time.

Important for installation

The box belongs in an existing waste water installation and isn't simply placed next to it. The slope, the hose routing and the connection to the building's plumbing determine whether the water drains away or stands in the box – and that's a job for a professional, not for instructions found online.

We deliberately don't describe a step-by-step installation here. Tell us which machine you have and how your workstation is set up, and we'll work out together whether this version is the right one.

Who it's for

For businesses and for everyone at home who runs their La Marzocco plumbed in and wants to replace the drain box or set one up for the first time. And for installers who want to fit an original part rather than a makeshift solution.

Goes well with

For other model ranges we carry the plastic Drain Box for the Linea PB and the plastic drain box for the GB5X.

The connection also calls for the 1.5-metre drain hose. Anyone who has the installation open anyway replaces it at the same time – an old hose is the second most common source of odour after the box itself.

You'll find more in the La Marzocco accessories and spare parts and Original spare parts categories.

From our workshop

At every service we take off the lid and flush the box with hot water before we touch anything else. What settles in there is a mix of coffee oils and milk residue, and after two weeks it smells stronger than anything else in the room.

When setting up the box for the first time, lay the drain hose with a steady slope and without any loops – a single dip is enough for water to stand there permanently. That's our experience from the workshops in Bern and Zurich, not a manufacturer's specification.

Meanwhile, in Bern and Zurich our favourites to drink are Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate and, if you want no acidity at all, Very Nutty. You'll find the full range in our coffee beans.

No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

What does the name Nordic mean?

Nordic is the manufacturer's name for this version. Our documentation doesn't say exactly how it differs from the other versions, and we won't guess.

Will the box fit my installation?

That depends on the machine and how your workstation is set up. Send us the model, serial number and a photo of the existing installation, and we'll clarify it before you order.

What is the box's part number?

Our documentation doesn't list a number for it. If you have one from service documentation, send it to us and we'll check it.

Can I install it myself?

We recommend having it installed by a professional. It involves connecting to the waste water installation, and there the slope determines whether everything drains away or stands still.

Can I see the part before buying?

Yes. In our showrooms in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b, the part is ready for you to look at, and we'll check the fit together with you.
