A spring plunger is the little brother of a door latch: a ball or pin pushed outwards by a spring that holds the panel in place. On the GB5, this part holds the front panel. You press the panel on, it clicks quietly into place – and stays there, even when portafilters are locked in and cups are set down all day long.
When the spring weakens or the plunger is worn out, the panel has play. You hear it before you see it: a rattle when tamping, a click when someone walks past the machine. At some point the panel falls off completely during cleaning, and then a polished panel is lying on the floor.
The front panel rattles, sits crooked or falls out. The plunger no longer clicks audibly into place. The spring is worn out or corroded. Or the panel has been removed often and the catches are worn – then it is worth replacing all positions at once.

For cafés whose GB5 panel no longer holds properly, and for technicians who bring a few catches along on a service visit, because experience shows they are all equally worn.
More parts can be found under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts and under Service parts. On the housing of the same series sits the cover plate above the foot of the GB5 X, and for height under the machine we carry the raised foot for Linea Classic and GB5 X.
Our routine from Bern and Zurich, not a manufacturer specification: when a panel rattles, we first check whether the catch is really to blame – often the machine is standing crooked and the panel rests on one side only. Put a spirit level on it, adjust the feet, then reassess. Sometimes that replaces the spare part altogether. To finish, an espresso as a test shot, for us Nutty Delight or Cozy Chocolate, and in a cappuccino the Very Nutty. More under Coffee beans.
No returns
Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold after being installed or test-fitted on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
That depends on how many catches your panel has and how many are worn out. Take a look or send us a photo and we will tell you the quantity.
The plunger is the spring-loaded unit itself. A separate spring is not supplied.
We list number I.1.014 as the catch for the GB5 front panel. We make no claims about other series; instead, we check using the serial number.
Usually gentle pressure and a steady hand are enough. If you would have to open the machine to get access, it is better to leave it to a qualified professional.
Yes. Bern, Gerberngasse 44 or Zurich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b. A short message is all it takes.
