The flowmeter counts how much water runs through the group – and that ultimately determines the amount in the cup. This cover closes the housing of the older, non-integrated design. It absorbs the pressure, holds the gasket in place and can be removed for cleaning without having to replace the whole unit.
A cover becomes an issue wherever things are opened often. If you have taken the flowmeter apart several times for descaling, you know the consequences: the seal groove is marked, the contact surface scratched, and at some point a fine wet trace remains on the housing even though the gasket is new. Then it is not the gasket that is to blame, but its counterpart.
Flowmeters almost always cause trouble because of limescale, not because of a broken part. Before you replace parts, a thorough descaling and cleaning is worthwhile; the products for this are listed under Machine and grinder cleaning. If the cover still leaks afterwards or the contact surface is damaged, it is time for a replacement.
Water leaks from the flowmeter housing even though the gasket is new. The contact surface is scratched or worn. The cover is cracked or a thread has given way. After several descaling cycles it no longer sits properly. Or you are opening the flowmeter anyway and replace the cover and gasket together.

The cover closes a pressurised point inside the machine. We do not provide step-by-step instructions for this: the machine must be depressurised and cooled down, the sealing surface clean, and the tightening torque determines whether it seals. This work belongs in experienced hands.
For service technicians who look after older La Marzocco machines, and for businesses where a wet spot remains on the flowmeter after descaling.
Matching parts are the O-ring for the flowmeter and, for the newer design, the flowmeter cover for GB5 and Linea PB. More parts are listed under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts and in the category Service parts.
Our routine from Bern and Zurich, not a manufacturer specification: we never descale flowmeters with the big brush; instead we place the parts in the solution and then rinse them thoroughly with clean water. Every scratch on the sealing surface is a future leak – and polishing a sealing surface takes longer than replacing the cover. Afterwards we check two shots with the scale and drink the third, usually Nutty Delight or Cozy Chocolate, and in a cappuccino the Very Nutty. More under Coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. Therefore, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine before ordering – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. Only the cover is supplied. The flowmeter itself with its measuring part is a separate component.
That is what La Marzocco calls the older design, in which the flowmeter is not integrated in the group cover. We check whether your machine has this version using the serial number.
No, the gasket is a separate item. We recommend ordering it at the same time, because the cover is rarely the only cause.
Because the cover only seals and does not measure. If the volume remains irregular, the measuring part of the flowmeter needs to be checked.
Yes. Bern, Gerberngasse 44 or Zurich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b. A short message is all it takes.
