On the GS3, the steam is controlled by a lever rather than a knob. This stainless steel lever has the part number B.1.004/3 and is position 3 of the steam valve assembly. It is the part that gives you a direct feel for the steam flow.
Because it is handled constantly and comes into contact with milk residue, it ages visibly: the surface goes dull, the mount develops play and, in the worst case, it breaks at the bearing point. After that, the steam can only be switched roughly on or off.
The lever wobbles on the shaft or twists. The mount is worn out. The surface is scratched or tarnished. Or the lever is bent because a milk jug got in its way.

For GS3 owners whose steam valve assembly works perfectly and only the control part needs replacing. A new lever is considerably cheaper than the complete steam valve.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: At the end of each shift, we always wipe the steam lever with the same cloth as the wand while both are still warm – our routine, not a manufacturer's requirement. Otherwise, cold milk residue on the lever mount is the most common cause of a dull, sticky lever. Afterwards, a cup of Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty from our coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for your order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick line and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. Only the lever is supplied, position 3 of the assembly, under the number B.1.004/3.
Not necessarily. If it is worn out, it's worth replacing both together – we stock it as a separate part.
No. Dripping comes from the seat and seal in the valve. Write to us about what you're seeing and we'll narrow it down.
Usually, yes. Only work on the machine when it is cold and depressurised, and don't overtighten the fastening.
Yes, in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b.
