La Marzocco conical spring for the GS3 MP – the part behind the good feel of the paddle

Anyone who runs a GS3 MP is buying exactly that: control over the flow, by hand, with a paddle that has a defined resistance. That resistance doesn't come from the paddle, but from a small conical spring behind it. When it weakens, the lever travel becomes spongy – you can no longer reliably hit the pre-infusion point, and two shots in a row no longer run the same.

A new spring restores the pressure point you learned with your first espresso on this machine.

When it's due

When the paddle feels soft or no longer returns cleanly to its starting position. When the detent point becomes blurry. When the spring has visibly suffered – bent, corroded or with coils touching each other. And routinely, whenever the group is open for an overhaul anyway.

Who it's for

For everyone with a GS3 MP whose paddle no longer does what the hand expects. The AV version doesn't have this mechanism – there, the electronics control the shot.

What goes with it

A group overhaul includes the group head gasket for GS3 and LM commercial machines and the flange gasket for the brew group. For the weekly routine, Puly Caff Plus cleaning powder, more in the cleaning range for machine and grinder. Everything else under La Marzocco accessories and spare parts.

Tip from our café

We lay the old and the new spring side by side on the table before installing anything. A fatigued spring is usually one to two millimetres shorter – you only see that in a direct comparison, and it saves the discussion about whether the swap makes any difference at all. This is our workshop routine from Bern and Zurich, not a manufacturer specification. For dialling in afterwards we use Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate for chocolatey notes and Very Nutty for maximum body. All roasts under Coffee beans.

Returns excluded

Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

Does it fit the GS3 AV?

No. This part belongs to the paddle mechanism of the MP version.

How can I tell that the spring has weakened?

The paddle feels soft, the detent point is no longer clear, and the paddle returns sluggishly.

Can I replace it myself?

The group has to be opened for this. If you're familiar with that, it's doable – otherwise our service will take care of it.

Should I order two right away?

At this price, yes. A second spring in the drawer saves you the wait next time.

Can I see the part in the showroom?

Yes, you can see it in person in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
