So the GS3 side panel sits flush again

This flat brass nut is one of those parts nobody orders until exactly one of them is missing. It belongs to the side panel fastening of the GS3: the screw sits on the outside, and on the inside this nut, three millimetres high, grips behind the sheet metal. Brass is no coincidence here – it tightens smoothly without galling the screw thread, and it doesn't rust when there is steam inside the housing now and then.

You don't notice it's missing right away, but when reassembling after a service. The panel can be put in place, but it won't tighten, rattles slightly every time the grinder runs or sticks out a millimetre at one corner. Usually the nut fell into the housing during disassembly and is lying somewhere under the boiler. Rather than searching, it's better to keep two of them in the drawer.

When it's due

The side panel doesn't sit flat after refitting. The screw spins without clamping because its counterpart is missing. The nut's thread is stripped or worn round because it was tightened too hard last time. Or the nut simply disappeared when the housing was opened – the most common reason of all.

Who it's for

For anyone who opens their GS3 themselves – for descaling, to change a gasket or because a panel is being replaced. And for workshops that restock a handful of these small parts after every service, because a cleanly closed housing can't be improvised. If you don't feel like experimenting with a steel nut from the DIY store, you're in the right place: the original nut has the right height, and that's what matters in the narrow gap behind the panel.

What goes with it

You'll find the full range in the La Marzocco GS3 spare parts section. It goes well with the rubber washer for the GS3 glass panel screws and the brass washer 14 × 7 × 0,5 mm. Don't confuse this part with the M8 nut for the glass side panel of the Strada EP – same thread, different machine, different number. All other small parts are in the Original spare parts section.

From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: Whenever we open a GS3, we put a strip of painter's tape over the lower gap of the housing before loosening the panel screws. If a nut drops, it stays on the tape instead of disappearing into the housing. This isn't a manufacturer's instruction but our own routine – it has saved us a lot of crawling under the workbench. Afterwards, in our opinion, the first espresso from the closed-up machine belongs to Nutty Delight, because it stays round even with a slightly impatient shot time. If you prefer it more chocolatey, go for Cozy Chocolate; the full range is under Coffee beans.

No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick line and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

Is the screw included?

No. Only the nut with part number I.1.025 is supplied. We stock screws for the GS3 side panels separately.

Does it also fit the Strada?

The Strada EP has its own position with the number I.1.036. Both are M8 but differ in version. So order the number listed in your service documentation.

How many do I need?

That depends on the panel and the year of manufacture. Send us the serial number of your GS3 and we'll look at the quantity together before you order too few.

Can I use a steel nut from the DIY store?

Technically it will hold, but it is often taller and the panel then no longer sits flat. On top of that, steel develops surface rust inside the housing. We recommend the original part.

Can I see the part at your place?

Yes. Come to our showroom in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 or in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Bring the old nut with you and we'll compare them right at the table.
