PTFE gasket 24 × 19 × 2 mm – the disc that seals where rubber would give up
PTFE feels waxy, is milky white and stands out as soon as you touch it: it doesn't spring back like an O-ring, it flows. That is exactly why it sits at hot, metallic joints in an espresso machine, where an elastomer would turn hard and brittle after a few hundred heat-up cycles.
A PTFE gasket works through shape rather than resilience. On first tightening it adapts to the surface, and after that it stays that way. That is its strength – and the reason it usually won't seal again when fitted a second time. If you open a threaded fitting with a PTFE disc, it's best to plan for a new gasket right away.
When it's due
A damp film or a limescale ring on the threaded fitting that comes back after retightening. A gasket that is pressed in on one side or torn when you remove it. A threaded fitting you had to open – then the old disc is not reused. And the classic: a spot that only stays tight if you keep tightening it harder. That is no longer sealing, that is crushing material.

Workshop tip from Bern and Zurich
Our own routine, not a manufacturer requirement: before throwing away an old gasket, we measure it with a caliper and note the values in the machine's service log. PTFE flattens slightly in use – if you only measure the removed disc, you'll end up ordering the wrong thickness. While the machine heats up again afterwards, we grind Nutty Delight, and for milk drinks we like Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. Everything under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced to order and cannot be resold once they have been fitted or test-fitted on a machine. How should the dimensions be read?
Our documentation lists them as 24 by 19 by 2 millimetres. The usual order is outer diameter, inner diameter and thickness. If in doubt, measure your old gasket and send us the values, and we'll compare them with this item.
Can I use an O-ring instead?
We advise against it. PTFE seals by flowing, an elastomer by resilience. Where the manufacturer specifies a PTFE disc, the spot is usually too hot or too metallic for rubber. Same dimensions do not mean same function here.
Can I reuse the old gasket?
Better not. PTFE adapts to the surface on first tightening and does not spring back. In our experience, once opened, such a threaded fitting will only seal again if you overtighten it – and that damages the seat.
