Behind the handle of the ModBar steam tap sits a mechanism that opens and closes every time you froth milk. Between the moving surfaces lies a washer that distributes the force and keeps the seat clean. Not a spectacular part – but one that belongs in the overhaul whenever the tap is taken apart.
Because the tap is operated a hundred times a day and exposed to steam temperature, the washer wears over time. It gets thinner, develops a pressure mark, and the handle starts to wander: it no longer closes at the same point, or it needs a little more force before the steam really stops.
A steam tap that only seals when you press noticeably harder. A handle with play that can no longer be adjusted out. A faint hiss after closing. A visibly worn or deformed washer when you take it apart. And whenever you open the tap anyway – you don’t reinstall a used overhaul part.

The steam tap is under boiler pressure. Before any work, the machine is disconnected from the mains, allowed to cool down completely and the steam boiler is depressurised. We deliberately do not publish step-by-step instructions – a steam tap opened under residual pressure is a scalding hazard. This work belongs in experienced hands.
For businesses with a ModBar system whose steam tap no longer closes cleanly, and for service technicians who overhaul the tap and replace all wear parts in one go.
The same tap also uses the O-ring 2,62 × 21,89 mm and the spring for the ModBar steam valve. For the wand itself there is the ModBar steam wand repair kit. You can find more ModBar items under Original spare parts and La Marzocco accessories and spare parts.
Workshop tip from Bern and Zurich
Our own routine, not a manufacturer specification: we always overhaul ModBar steam taps in pairs, even if only one is acting up. The two taps of a system usually have the same operating hours, and in our experience the second one starts complaining within a few weeks. Afterwards: a cappuccino as a check, for us usually with Cozy Chocolate. Nuttier with Nutty Delight, stronger with Very Nutty. Everything under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a trial fit on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we’ll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Part number F.3.113. If you are working with a number from service documentation, compare it with this one before you order.
Our documentation states no material and no dimensions, so we don’t list any here. Write to us where in the tap you need it and we’ll look into it.
That depends on the condition. Often the O-ring and spring are needed as well. If you are taking the tap apart anyway, it’s worth ordering the items together.
No. Our model selection has no separate entry for ModBar, so you won’t find the part via a model filter. The fit is stated in the table, and with the part number you are on the safe side anyway.
Yes. We have showrooms at Gerberngasse 44 in Bern and at Hagenholzstrasse 50b in Zurich. Drop us a line and we’ll have the part ready for you.
