Closing cap M20 x 1 in stainless steel – seals what should stay sealed

A closing cap is a part you only notice when it is missing or no longer holds. It closes a threaded opening that is not needed in this machine configuration – a test port, a spare opening, a path that stays blind from the factory. And because water or steam is under pressure at this point, it decides between dry and dripping wet.

This cap has an M20 x 1 thread, a height of 13 millimetres and a width across flats of 22 millimetres. It is made of stainless steel. The manufacturer lists it under part number A.5.082. One cap is supplied, without seal.

When it is due

Moisture, a drop or a white limescale trace shows on the cap. The sealing surface is dented or deformed. The spanner flats are rounded off, so no tool grips any more. Or the thread suffered during the last service and no longer holds cleanly.

Important for installation

The cap sits in a pressurised line. That is why there are no step-by-step instructions here: the machine must be disconnected from the power, depressurised and cooled down, the tightening torque decides between leak-tight and a stripped thread, and after installation it must be leak-tested under pressure. This is workshop work – in Bern and Zurich we are happy to take care of it.

Who it is for

For service technicians who have found a leak at a blind connection. For workshops that keep closing caps in the common thread sizes in stock, because otherwise such a part holds up the appointment. And for businesses that consistently renew everything that seals during an overhaul.

What goes with it

Further small parts and fittings can be found under Accessories and spare parts for La Marzocco and under Service parts. For the commercial machines, take a look at Linea PB spare parts, for the lever machine at La Marzocco LEVA spare parts. Limescale is the most common reason for leaking sealing surfaces – that is why Machine and grinder cleaning goes with it.

Workshop tip from Bern and Zurich
Our own routine, not a manufacturer's specification: for us, rounded-off spanner flats are an exclusion criterion, even if the cap is still tight. Otherwise, at the next service you can no longer get at it without destroying something – and then a small part turns into a big repair. After the leak test, we always pull an espresso for acceptance, preferably with Nutty Delight. Sweeter with Cozy Chocolate, stronger with Very Nutty. Everything else in our coffee beans.

Returns excluded
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold after being installed or test-fitted on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

What thread does the cap have?

M20 x 1. Plus a height of 13 millimetres and a width across flats of 22 millimetres, material stainless steel. Part number A.5.082.

Is a seal included?

No, the cap is supplied on its own. Whether a seal belongs at your position, and which one, we are happy to clarify beforehand – send us the model and serial number.

Where does a cap like this actually sit?

On threaded openings that are not used in this machine configuration. Exactly where depends on the series and equipment.

Can I replace it myself?

We recommend a specialist, because the cap sits in a pressurised line and must be tested under pressure after installation.

Can I look at the part in your showroom?

Yes. We are in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Let us know shortly beforehand and we will have the part ready.
