The NECCST Series 1 is not a toy hand grinder or a lifestyle gadget. Three years of development, hundreds of prototypes, awarded the Red Dot Design Award 2026. Stefan and Fynn Eckstein from the Munich design studio Eckstein Design dared to ask a simple question: can a hand grinder achieve the consistency level of professional electric grinders, without compromising on mechanics, materials, or experience?

What Makes the NECCST Series 1 Different
Stepless Grind Adjustment (Patented). No click-based system, no spring mechanism. You turn, feel, and set the adjustment with 0.001 mm precision. Espresso, filter, French press – simply turn through, without recalibrating.
Zero Retention under 0.1 g. Vertical grinding path, anti-static wiper, magnetically attached PMMA output funnel. Changing beans? No residual flavors.
63-mm Conical Burr with Titanium Nitride Coating. Specially developed. Hard, precise, taste-neutral – with long service life and minimal heat generation during grinding.

The NECCST Series 1 positions itself between the portable C40 and the stationary HG-2: significantly larger burrs than the C40 for higher consistency and speed, more compact and ergonomic than the HG-2.
Series 1 or Series 1 GBW?
Series 1. Purely manual, completely analog. For those who already have their own scale or consciously opt for a pure hand workflow.
Series 1 GBW (Grind-by-Weight). With the integrated, magnetically detachable NECCST Scale in the base. Measures directly from the grinder during grinding, three modes: Grind, Brew, Advanced.
Workmanship – No Compromise Between Material and Function
The NECCST Series 1 is made of solid stainless steel, an aluminum base, helical bevel gears, and encapsulated ball bearings. The large flywheel ensures that the grinder runs almost by itself after the first few rotations – even for espresso-fine grind. Its own weight keeps it firmly on the work surface. Holding it with both hands? Not necessary.
CCC Tip
63-mm conical burrs with titanium nitride coating provide a tighter particle distribution than smaller conical burrs. This significantly reduces the likelihood of channeling – taste-wise, this means less astringency, clearer acidity structure. For light filter coffee, floral notes (linalool, geraniol) and fruity esters (ethyl butyrate) are cleanly accentuated. With darker espresso roasts, caramel and Maillard aromas like furaneol and 2-furfurylthiol emerge more clearly, without the cup becoming bitter.
