Weber Workshops Looking Glass – shot mirror

You bend down almost automatically to catch the moment the first drops run together under a bottomless portafilter. The Looking Glass spares you the contortions: you place the mirror under the portafilter and watch the extraction comfortably from above.

Coffee Coaching Club is an importer of Weber Workshops.

What sets the Looking Glass apart

The base and the mirror gimbal are milled from a solid piece of 6061 aluminium and hard black anodised. A magnetic stainless steel ball holds the mirror in any position, and an elastomer foot keeps everything from slipping without scratching the drip tray. The mirror itself is chemically hardened glass with a PVD-coated back and an oleophobic coating applied in a vacuum chamber, the kind you know from high-quality smartphones – splashes simply bead off. Fully adjustable; the mirror is removable.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bottomless portafilter?

Yes. The Looking Glass shows the underside of the puck – that only works with a bottomless (naked) portafilter.

Will the foot scratch my drip tray?

No. The elastomer foot keeps the mirror from slipping without scratching the surface.

How do I clean the mirror?

The oleophobic coating lets splashes bead off; a soft cloth is all you need. The mirror is removable.

    Roastery tip

The view from below is the most honest feedback on your puck preparation: if it first runs from just one spot, you had channelling – then it’s worth taking more care with distribution and tamping. With dense profiles such as Cozy Chocolate, you can see the even, dark drops forming especially nicely. That’s our recommendation, one of many.
