The indicator stays quiet because there's still enough water. Only when the level really drops does the machine let you know – in good time, not in the middle of a shot.
The float is the reason this tank has its own design. It reports the fill level to the control unit before the pump draws air. That sounds like a minor detail until it happens for the first time in the middle of a shot.
What's in the tank makes up more than 90 percent of what ends up in the cup. From the more than 800 compounds in roasted coffee, the water extracts exactly those it still has capacity for – which is why a mineral content of between 50 and 100 mg per litre is considered the range in which sweetness and body come through best.
The pump running dry has nothing to do with that, and yet it's the reason the float is fitted. It stops the machine while there's still water in the system. If you know the indicator, you'll top up beforehand anyway – the float is the safety net behind it.
This design belongs to the VIP models and the Mara PL62. For the Mara X and for the EM series around Anna and Anita, there are different tanks, which we stock separately.

For anyone with a Grace, Victoria, Kate, Elizabeth or a Mara PL62 whose tank needs replacing or whose fill-level signal no longer comes through reliably. It's fitted in a minute, without any tools.
No setup is too small here, and none too big. Whether the machine has been running every morning for years or makes two cups at the weekend – every way of making coffee is valid.
Water and grind size are the two levers that make the biggest difference. Particle size and uniformity determine how much surface area is available to the water in the first place. Burr sets are like car engines: subjective, and there's no best one. For anyone who wants an affordable, precise coffee grinder: the VS3 from the Varia collection. If you want more, you'll find the VS6 there and the EG-1 at Weber Workshops.
Descaler, backflush powder and brushes are under machine and grinder cleaning. That's our order of things, one of many.
It's specified for the VIP models Grace PL81T, Victoria PL91T, Kate PL82T and Elizabeth PL92T as well as for the Mara PL62, PL62-W and PL62T. It explicitly does not fit the Mara X. If you're unsure, send us the item number or the rating plate of your machine at [email protected] – we'll check the fit before you order.
It reports the fill level to the control unit so that the machine stops before the pump draws air. That's why this tank has its own design and can't be swapped for a tank without a float.
No. For the Mara X and the Bianca there's a separate design with item number 4000036, which we stock separately.
2.5 litres.
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see the part in person and go through with us whether it fits your machine.
2 to 4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon is also possible.
Once the tank is full again, a dense, sweet espresso is worth it. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight from our coffee roastery are our main recommendation for that: full-bodied, aromatic, round. For maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty, and if you're looking for a fruity experience, you'll find it in Wild Peach. Our opinion is one of many – any bean you enjoy is the right one.
