IMS Baristapro Nanotech Precision Basket – Ridged, 20g (58mm)
Twenty grams visibly fills the basket more, the puck sits higher, denser, and in the bottomless portafilter, the espresso extracts as a rich, even column. After knocking it out, the basket comes out almost clean – oils and water bead off the Nanotech quartz coating.
No one needs a precision basket to pull good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes denser, rounder, and clearer. This is one of many possible choices, and we respect both directions.
Important: The Shot Runs Significantly Faster
A tip from our experience that you should know before your first shot: The Nanotech quartz coating noticeably reduces friction in the basket – water flows through the puck significantly faster. This shifts the extraction dynamics, and the taste often changes radically compared to your previous basket. This is not a defect, but the nature of this basket. Expect to grind finer and re-calibrate your recipe – grind first, then dose if necessary – until the cup is where you want it again. Our opinion is one of many – but you should plan for this effect.
What Makes This Basket Special
Espresso is extraction based on a weight ratio – usually 1:2, meaning about 40g in the cup from 20g of coffee. How cleanly this succeeds depends on how evenly the water flows through the puck. A precise, even hole pattern distributes the flow across the entire surface – fewer channels, fewer over- and under-extracted spots at the same time. With a higher dose like 20g, this evenness particularly pays off: more body without the extraction running wild. What you taste is density, sweetness, and a long finish; caramel, chocolate, and nut clearly stand out. Taste and smell are inseparable – a large part of the aroma is created retronasally, during swallowing. The Nanotech quartz coating on the AISI 304 stainless steel makes the surface smoother, repels oils, and facilitates cleaning. It is our observation that basket choice fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who it's for
For everyone who likes more body and intensity and enjoys dosing a bit higher – without the extraction becoming uneven. Every budget is welcome, and in a bottomless portafilter, you'll see the difference directly. If you want to dose leaner or stronger, you'll find the same basket in 15, 18, and 22g. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a specific basket.
What goes with it
The basket shows its best in a bottomless portafilter. Because the shot runs faster, a finely adjustable grinder is particularly worthwhile. To ensure an even puck: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. To prevent clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. On top of the puck: Puck Screens. All other baskets: Precision Basket Collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my shot run faster with the Nanotech basket – and what do I do?
The Nanotech quartz coating reduces friction in the basket, causing water to flow through the puck faster. The extraction shifts noticeably, and the taste often changes significantly. Therefore, grind finer and re-calibrate your recipe – grind first, then the dose.
20g or 18g – which should I choose?
20g is an updosed amount for more body and intensity; 18g is the common starting point, 22g for even denser shots, 15g for leaner ones. The same basket is available in all four sizes.
What does "ridgeless" mean?
The basket has no circumferential retaining ridge and is held by the spring or the portafilter. It fits easily in most 58mm portafilters – if in doubt, tell us your portafilter model.
How do I clean the basket?
Daily backflush without cleaner, every 50 shots or so with a cleaning agent like Urnex Cafiza. Thanks to the coating, less coffee oil adheres.
Can I see the basket before buying?
Yes, at our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
Roastery Tip
A higher dose and an even basket particularly reward dense, aromatic beans. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight produce full-bodied and round shots. Those seeking maximum body without any acidity can stick with Very Nutty; those who like it fruity can discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
