What makes the Acaia Umbra Lunar special
The Umbra Lunar is a display-free scale with Acaia's industrial weighing technology – accurate to 0.1 gram, with an optional resolution of 0.01 gram. Instead of its own screen, it uses the Magic Relay function: it shares its measurement data in real time with another Acaia scale and displays it there. A quick tap is enough, and the display jumps to whichever scale is active. Two devices become one continuous workflow.
It pairs especially well with the Pyxis from our Acaia Collection: the Pyxis brings the precise display, the Umbra sits under the machine and supplies the weight to go with it – a pairing that complements each other very nicely in everyday use. It also works just as well with the Pearl or the Lunar. And if you'd rather not run a second scale, you simply connect the Umbra via Bluetooth to the Acaia app and read the values on your phone.
Because there's no display, it uses very little power: 40 to 48 hours of active use, up to 14 days on standby. The anodized aluminum housing is water-resistant and shrugs off splashes near the machine. Care is simple – a soft cloth with warm water is enough; it's best to avoid cleaning agents or solvents so the anodized surface stays intact.
For us, that fits into a simple conviction: good coffee starts with ratio, and an espresso at roughly a 1:2 ratio depends on getting the input and output amounts right. No shot is ever quite like yesterday's, because the bean, the humidity and the person all change daily. The Umbra makes the weight visible right where you need it – the rest is up to you. Whether you want a display-free second scale is purely a matter of taste. You want it, or you don't, and that's just our view, one of many.

Who the Umbra Lunar is for
The Umbra Lunar is for anyone who already uses an Acaia scale and wants to extend their workflow – for example with a quiet second scale under the machine, whose readings appear on the existing display. It also appeals to those who value a clean, display-free counter or who prefer to read their values on their phone. Important to know: the Umbra deliberately has no display of its own – you read it via a paired Acaia scale or the app. If you're looking for a standalone scale with a screen, the Lunar or Pearl serves you better. No, and that's intentional. The Umbra Lunar is display-free and shows its values via the Magic Relay function on a paired Acaia scale or through the Acaia app on your phone. That saves power and keeps the counter calm.
Which devices can the Umbra Lunar connect with?
Via Magic Relay it pairs with other Acaia scales – particularly well with the Pyxis, and just as well with the Pearl or the Lunar. Alternatively, you can connect it directly to the Acaia app via Bluetooth. That way it shares its weight in real time and you work with one shared display.
Do I absolutely need a second Acaia scale?
No. You can also use the Umbra Lunar on its own via the Acaia app on your phone. Its real strength, though, comes out when it's paired, sharing display and data with a second Acaia scale.
How do I clean the Umbra Lunar?
With a soft cloth and warm water. Avoid cleaning agents, solvents or extended soaking, since these can attack the anodized coating on the aluminum housing.

Roastery Tip
We like the Umbra where space is tight and the main scale's display is within reach anyway. For the espresso that follows, we like to reach for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – rich, sweet, dense. If you love it full and round without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; for a fruity experience, Wild Peach goes into the grinder. That's our recommendation, one of many, and any bean that tastes good to you is the right one.
