The screw that shouldn't work itself loose
On the portafilter support of an automatic tamper, a ram force acts against the screw connection with every cycle. That's exactly why there's a spring washer under the head: it maintains the preload when the constant load changes would otherwise slowly loosen the joint.
It's a part costing less than a franc, yet it determines how smoothly the whole mount runs. A spring washer that has long since been flattened or a rounded-out hex socket is reason enough not to reuse it.
When it's due
It's due when the screw connection keeps coming loose, when the spring washer is flattened, when the screw head is rounded out or the thread is damaged – and as a rule whenever it has been removed once during servicing.

Important for installation
The screw sits in a joint that absorbs force during tamping. Before any work, the device is disconnected from the mains, and the tightening torque follows the device's service documentation, not gut feeling – a stripped M6 thread in an aluminium housing costs far more than this screw. We deliberately don't provide step-by-step instructions here.
Who it's for
For service workshops that replace the fastening hardware instead of reusing it when dismantling the mount – and for anyone who has lost a screw along the way.
What goes with it
It belongs to the slide for the M5 portafilter support. On the same mount you'll also find the lower clamping ring for M3 to M6. The whole category is listed under Macap and PuqPress spare parts and under Puqpress.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
With every tamper service, we put one or two of these screws in the box. It's annoying to plan a second trip because of a part worth a few cents – that's our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. After the test run, we have a Nutty Delight, sometimes the Cozy Chocolate or the Very Nutty. You'll find the full selection under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and can't be resold after being installed or test-fitted on the device. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we'll check the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get one screw or several?
The price is for one screw including spring washer. If you need several, order the corresponding quantity.
Is the spring washer available separately?
Our documentation lists both together under one number. The washer isn't listed there on its own.
What head shape does the screw have?
Our documentation gives no information on this. We don't state anything here that we can't back up – if in doubt, comparing it with the old screw will tell you the rest.
Does it also fit the M3, M4 or M6?
Our documentation names the M5. It says nothing about the other models – let us know which device you have and we'll check it.
Can I pick up the part at your shop?
Yes. We're in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a line to let us know which part you need and we'll have it ready for you.
Questions about the fit? Write to us at [email protected]. We deliver across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2-4 working days.
