What the Upgrade Does
With the older Flair 58+, the preheating control is attached to a cable dongle, plus a comparatively large power supply. The Base Upgrade Kit integrates the control into the machine's foundation – a button on the base selects between the three heating levels 85 °C, 90 °C, and 95 °C, tailored for dark, medium, and light roasts. The new power supply is significantly more compact, and the cabling is sleeker.
Why Consistent Preheating Matters
If hot brew water hits a cold stainless steel brew head, the brew temperature immediately drops – the result is underextraction, making the cup taste thin and flat. A consistently preheated brew group maintains a stable temperature and extracts even the more difficult-to-dissolve compounds from the coffee grounds. This creates the dense, syrupy body that lever machines are known for. This is our observation – one of many.

Is the upgrade compatible with my Flair 58?
It works with all Flair 58+ as well as Flair 58 and 58x from July 2023, identifiable by the Quick-Disconnect brew head. Older models are not compatible.
How complicated is the installation?
Plug and Play: unscrew the old base, put on the new one, plug in the new power supply. Tools and instructions are included, and the conversion takes only a few minutes.
What heating levels are available?

Can I see the upgrade live before purchasing?

Roastery Tip
The stable temperature benefits dense roasts like Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – here, the medium to lower setting works well for more body. Those who work with light roasts like Wild Peach will bring out the fruity notes more clearly with the 95°C setting. This is our recommendation, one of many.
