The basket is formed from a single piece of 420 stainless steel, with straight walls and a 0.8 mm thick base. Each of the 650 laser-drilled holes measures 0.26 mm in diameter.

The perforation in detail
The 650 holes of 0.26 mm are laser-drilled. Basket geometry and perforation are part of every espresso recipe: the defined 20 g capacity gives you a clear starting point for dialling in your coffee.
Straight walls
The side walls run straight. Weigh your dose, distribute and tamp, then brew with your ORBI recipe. Varia recommends noting dose, yield and time before making the next adjustment. We grind fine, start at 14.5 g and work our way up, usually to 17 g, at a ratio below 1:2 by weight. Our opinion is one of many.
