The DC motor spins up through the planetary gearbox, the 65mm Mizen burrs turn at low RPM, and the grounds fall directly into the magnetically held dosing cup underneath the chute. After about 25 seconds, the dose is done. One press of the built-in knocker, the last particles fall, and the grinder switches off automatically. Nine centimeters narrow, 3.5 kilograms heavy, and still built to a manufacturing tolerance under 10 microns on the critical components.
The Lagom Casa is Option-O's answer to the question of what a compact single-dose grinder for home should look like: nothing unnecessary, nothing essential left out. Positioned between the smaller Lagom mini 2 and the larger Lagom P80 – same design philosophy, same manufacturing standard, reduced footprint. Designed by Option-O from Australia, made in Taiwan. Coffee Coaching Club is a partner of Option-O in Switzerland.
Most single-dose grinders have a hopper with a lid: lid off, beans in, lid back on, press the button. The Casa skips that intermediate step. Beans go straight into the opening on top – the grind starts the moment you press the button. Underneath waits the magnetically centered dosing cup, which fits both portafilters and pour-over setups. A chute knocker (a mechanical tap on the grind channel), a static reducer, and the automatic shutoff make sure nothing is left behind and nothing keeps trickling out at the end.
Retention under 0.1 grams per dose – that's the standard single-dose grinders in this price range need to hit for the concept to make sense. Between an espresso bean in the morning and a filter bean in the afternoon, nothing needs rinsing.
The Casa ships with Mizen 65CL conical burrs. These are Option-O's current in-house developed omni burrs – built for the full brewing range, from fine espresso to coarse French press. Option-O sticks with the industry convention of naming conical burrs by outer diameter – the grinding surface of the 65CL is comparable to classic 63mm conical burrs. Internally, the burrs are machined to fit in the same housing as the smaller Mizen 48 variants, which makes a later burr swap simple.
Character in the cup: a balanced profile with medium-high clarity and moderate body. For espresso, the 65CL delivers a clean balance of body, acidity, and complexity; for pour-over, a clear aroma separation with noticeable depth. Compared to smaller conical burrs, they bring more nuance and aroma layers and are also faster – an 18-gram espresso dose takes about 20 to 30 seconds. The Mizen line was deliberately optimized for modern light roasts, but works just as cleanly with medium and darker roasts.
The Casa deliberately runs at low RPM – a design decision Option-O carries consistently across the whole Lagom family. The DC motor transfers its torque through a planetary gearbox, which delivers even power at low RPM. Less speed means less friction heat in the grind chamber, less thermal stress on the volatile aroma compounds, and overall more even particle distribution with the conical burrs.
The shaft is carried by three bearings (triple-bearing shaft) – this ensures concentric, stable grinding even after years of use. Every critical component is machined to tolerances under 0.01 mm. It's the part you don't see and don't taste immediately, but it's what makes the difference when the grinder still delivers the same grind quality after five years as it did on day one.
Grind size adjustment is stepless via the top dial. Unlike stepped grinders, there are no clicks, just a continuous scale – ideal for micro-adjustments during espresso dial-in. A marking on the dial helps you reliably find a position you've already dialed in. The zero point is calibratable, allowing easy zero-point recalibration after a burr change or whenever needed.

The Casa suits home baristas who want a compact single-dose grinder built to a high manufacturing standard – without the effort and price of a flagship grinder like the Lagom P80 or EG-1. It fits into any kitchen corner, runs quietly, and delivers stable results across the full brewing range.
The Casa isn't for everyone. If you want flagship-level performance with 80mm flat burrs and a pre-crushing system: Option-O Lagom P80 or Weber Workshops EG-1. If you want an even more affordable single-dose alternative: Varia VS3 Gen 2 (Swiss importer). If you prefer the larger grind chamber with 63mm conical burrs in a different design language: Varia VS6.
The Casa is the grinder for the home barista who prioritizes compactness and a thought-through workflow over maximum grinding surface. Whoever wants it knows why.
The Option-O Lagom Casa can be ordered directly in our webshop, in both colors (black and silver). Delivery throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2 to 4 business days. Click and Collect in Bern, Gerberngasse 44 and Zürich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b. The Casa is on display there in the showroom and can be experienced with your own beans.
For questions about the Casa, comparing it with the Lagom mini 2, or the upgrade path to the P80: office@coffeecoachingclub.ch or by phone during business hours.
The Casa works with any portafilter machine. Typical combinations from our showroom: La Marzocco Linea Micra, La Marzocco Linea Mini R, Rocket Espresso, ECM. For manual levers: Flair Espresso 58+2. For pour-over and filter: thanks to the stepless adjustment and the omni burrs, it works without switching setups. Weber Workshops BIRD is a premium brewer combination, more affordable: Hario V60.
For precise weighing: Normcore scale affordable, or Acaia Lunar with app and flow-rate display. For airtight bean storage: Airscape. For precise coffee water: Apax Labs mineral concentrates (Swiss importer). Background on burrs, RPM, and particle distribution in our Sensory World.
A balanced profile with medium-high clarity and moderate body. For espresso, a clean balance of body, acidity, and complexity; for pour-over, clear aroma separation with noticeable depth. Deliberately developed as omni burrs – works from very fine espresso to coarse cold brew. Particularly strong with modern light roasts, but just as clean with medium and darker roasts.
The Lagom mini 2 is the smaller and lighter grinder in the family. The Casa is more robust, has a stronger motor, a more direct workflow (direct-load, no lid), larger 65mm burrs, and a better static reducer. Positioned between the mini 2 and the P80. If you want maximum compactness: mini 2. If you want a bit more power and flexibility: Casa.
The Casa has 65mm conical burrs and is built for compactness and a simple workflow. The P80 has 80mm Mizen flat burrs with a pre-crushing system, significantly more motor power (500W brushless DC), variable RPM, and is optimized for maximum clarity and flagship performance. Two classes apart in price and effort. The Casa is enough for most home barista uses. If you want to grind very light roasts at the highest level of clarity, the P80 offers more.
Yes. Stepless adjustment covers fine (espresso) to coarse (French press, cold brew). The Mizen 65CL conical burrs were deliberately developed as omni burrs – so optimized for the whole brewing range. The dosing cup is magnetically centered and fits under portafilters as well as pour-over setups.
Under 0.1 grams dynamically, with the built-in knocker on the grind channel. That's enough to switch between different beans without rinsing – that's the functional core of single-dose.
Yes. The burr change is nearly tool-free. The 65 and 48 Mizen burrs are cross-compatible in the same housing. Replacement burrs are available separately through Option-O.
Low RPM combined with the planetary gearbox and the heavy aluminum housing keeps the noise at a level that won't wake anyone in the morning. In the showroom, the Casa runs during tastings without disrupting conversation.
Yes. The Casa is on display in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Bringing your own beans is expressly welcome.

The Casa with the Mizen 65CL burrs is a reliable all-round grinder in our showroom. Our Cozy Chocolate develops a dense chocolate sweetness with a soft structure – the low RPM protects the aromas, and the 65mm grinding surface gives the profile extra clarity. Nutty Delight works on the Casa as a reliable everyday companion, especially for milk drinks – the nutty sweetness comes through cleanly. Very Nutty is for anyone seeking maximum body without acidity and a stable base. If you want to experiment: Wild Peach shows itself with the omni burrs with clean clarity in the fruity notes, the peach side coming through clearly. That's our recommendation, one of many.
