The gasket at the transition from the group to the front
On the new brew group of the Appartamento TCA, there is a gasket between the group and the housing. Its job is simple: it is meant to prevent water and steam that occur at the group from running behind the panel into the inside of the housing. It plays no role in how the extraction works – but it does for everything that sits behind the front.
You usually only notice it when it is missing or damaged: moisture then gets drawn inside, and because this happens slowly, the problem is often only found when corrosion or limescale shows up in a completely different place. The part number is A449907993.
When it is due
The gasket is due when it is torn, has hardened or was damaged when the group was removed. When moisture appears behind the front panel after an extraction. When limescale rings form on the inside of the panel. And in general whenever the group is taken off for an overhaul – a gasket that has been compressed once no longer seats the same way the second time it is fitted.

Important for installation
To replace it, the front panel has to come off and the group has to be loosened – an area that is hot during operation and where pressurised lines run. We deliberately do not provide step-by-step instructions for this. The machine must be disconnected from power, depressurised and cooled down, and the group must be tightened evenly during reassembly so that the gasket seats all the way round instead of being squeezed at one point.

Our routine from Bern and Zurich – not a manufacturer specification, but our workshop practice: we briefly soak this gasket in warm water before installing it. This makes it more supple and lets it be positioned cleanly without shifting when the group is put in place. Then two heating cycles and a look behind the panel with a torch. As a check, one extraction of Nutty Delight, then Cozy Chocolate and, for milk drinks, Very Nutty. All under Coffee beans.
