Varia VS3 Spring Set – Replacement Springs for the Grinding Chamber
After months of intensive use, the four springs under the outer burr can lose tension. The burr then sits less stably, vibrates more strongly during grinding, and the particle distribution becomes wider – shots run more inconsistently, even though you haven't changed the grind size. With the original spring set, you can bring your VS3 back to factory level.
Coffee Coaching Club is the exclusive Swiss importer of Varia. We have spare parts like this spring set directly in stock.
What the Spring Set Does
The four springs sit directly under the outer burr in the VS3's grinding chamber. They keep the burr stable and centered under load and dampen vibrations that occur when grinding hard beans – especially with light roasts. If the springs lose their tension, the burr moves minimally under load, which changes the distance between the inner and outer burrs and thus the particle size during a single shot.

Installation
Unscrew the hopper, remove the outer ring, lift out the burr, remove the four old springs, insert the new ones, and reassemble in reverse order. No special tools required. After the replacement, readjust the grind size – this is normal and part of the process.
What goes with it
If the grinder is open anyway, a burr upgrade is a good idea – Hypernova or Supernova from the Varia Collection fit directly into the VS3. For precise dosing after the replacement, the Varia AKU scales or the Timemore scales are suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if the springs need to be replaced?
Typical signs include stronger vibrations during grinding, more inconsistent shots despite an unchanged grind size, or visible play on the outer burr when you gently move it.
Do I need special tools for the replacement?
No. The replacement can be done tool-free in a few minutes: Unscrew the hopper, remove the outer ring, lift out the burr, replace the springs, reassemble in reverse.
Do I need to readjust the grind size after replacing the springs?
Yes, this is normal. The new springs minimally change the position of the outer burr. Plan for two to three test shots.
Does the spring set fit all VS3 generations?
Yes, the spring set is compatible with all previous generations of the Varia VS3.
How often should the springs be changed?
This depends on usage. For daily use, it's worth checking every 12 to 18 months, or as soon as the signs mentioned above appear.
Roastery Tip
A few millimeters of spring tension have a noticeable effect, because a uniform particle distribution is the basis of any clean extraction. If the burr vibrates, more outliers occur finer and coarser – which makes the cup restless. New springs bring the VS3 back to its tight distribution, most noticeable with light roasts. This is our recommendation, one of many.
