The small part that gives the LEVA's steam lever its hold

On the LEVA, steam is controlled by a lever, not by a rotary knob. The lever sits in a chamber, and that is exactly where this pin holds the mechanism together. Every time steam is drawn, it takes up the force that comes from the barista's wrist – and over a busy shift, that adds up to quite a lot.

Wear shows in the feel long before anything breaks. The lever develops play, it rattles slightly when you let go of it, or it no longer moves cleanly over its full travel but catches halfway. If you then take the pin out, you will usually see a shiny, slightly oval wear track where it works in the bearing.

When it's due

Replace the pin when the steam lever has noticeable side play. When you hear a faint click on operation that wasn't there before. When the lever no longer returns cleanly to its rest position on its own. When the removed pin shows a visible wear track, a groove or an oval flattening. And as a rule whenever the valve chamber is open anyway during an overhaul – the part is inexpensive, a second disassembly is not.

Important for installation

The pin itself is purely mechanical – but the chamber it sits in carries steam. That is why we do not provide step-by-step instructions. Disconnect the machine from the mains, depressurise it, let it cool down and leave the disassembly of the valve chamber to a specialist. If you remove the lever yourself, make a note beforehand of which way round the pin sits.

Who it's for

For baristas and workshops that use a LEVA every day and want the steam lever to feel like it did on day one again after the service.

What goes with it

The right-hand bracket for the LEVA steam valve belongs to the same assembly. For the lever group next to it, there is the roller bushing for the lever group and the flanged bushing 12 x 14 x 12 mm. All LEVA parts are listed under La Marzocco LEVA spare parts, the rest of the range in the Original spare parts category.

From our workshop in Bern and Zurich

Our own routine, not a manufacturer's specification: when a LEVA comes in for service, we always check the steam lever first with the machine cold and unpressurised – simply by moving it by hand. Play that you would put down to steam pressure with the machine running stands out immediately this way and usually leads us straight to this pin. Once the machine is back together, we pull the first test shot – preferably with Nutty Delight, because on the LEVA it responds nicely to the pressure profile. If you prefer it more chocolatey, take Cozy Chocolate, and for a strong milk coffee Very Nutty. Everything under Coffee beans.

Returns excluded

Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after being installed or test-fitted on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or send us a quick message and we will check the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

How many pins are included?

One. If you want to renew both sides, simply order it twice.

What is the part number?

Part number I.1.037. If your service documentation lists a different number, send it to us before you order.

My steam lever rattles – will the pin be enough?

Often yes, but not always. Play can also come from a worn bushing. Tell us what you are observing and we will narrow it down together.

Can I replace it myself?

The chamber carries steam. We recommend installation by a specialist and therefore do not provide installation instructions.

Can I see the part in your showroom?

Yes. In Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Bring the old pin with you and we will compare it directly.
