Viton in 75 Shore A: the hard ring for high loads

The size designation is 4150, the material Viton and the hardness 75 Shore A. The part number is F.2.014.01. Viton – technically FKM – is the material La Marzocco uses where temperature and medium would ask too much of a standard rubber over time. At 75 Shore A it is harder than the common 70 rings: it deforms less, but withstands higher pressure without being pushed into the gap.

This combination is neither chance nor a suggestion – it is exactly what the parts list specifies. If you fit a softer ring or an EPDM ring of the same size at this point, it will go in, but the sealing point will then behave differently from how it should.

When it's due

An ageing Viton ring doesn't go soft, it becomes brittle. It loses its sheen, develops fine cracks on the outer curve and sometimes even breaks on removal. On the machine you'll notice it as a spot that weeps under pressure and stays dry when depressurised, as pressure that slowly drops, or as a limescale rim on a threaded fitting you've never opened.

Important for installation

The ring sits in a pressurised connection. Only work on the machine when it has cooled down, is depressurised and disconnected from the mains, and release the boiler pressure completely before opening a threaded fitting. We deliberately don't give step-by-step instructions here. Brittle rings tend to crumble on removal – check the groove for residue afterwards before the new ring goes in.

Who it's for

For service technicians who work with the parts list and have identified number F.2.014.01. And for businesses that deliberately keep the more expensive Viton items in stock because they can't be sourced at short notice when needed.

What goes with it

Other fluoroelastomer rings are the O-ring 2,62 × 17,13 mm FKM 70 ShA and the O-ring 1,78 × 11,89 mm FKM 70 ShA. Also available in Viton are the group cover gasket and the group head flange gasket Linea Classic. For an overview, see Original spare parts and La Marzocco accessories and spare parts.

From our workshop in Bern and Zurich

The best way to keep Viton rings recognisable in the spare parts cabinet is to store them strictly separately – black looks like black, and reaching into the wrong drawer only shows up months later. That's why we label every compartment with the part number. This is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. Afterwards, our test shot runs on Nutty Delight, sweeter with Cozy Chocolate, stronger with Very Nutty. Everything else is under Coffee beans.

No returns

Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on the machine. So check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine before ordering – or drop us a line and we'll check the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.

What is the difference between Viton and FKM?

None in substance. Viton is a brand name for fluoroelastomer, FKM the technical abbreviation for the same material group. Our documentation says Viton here, which is why the title says so too.

Why 75 instead of 70 Shore A?

Because the ring has to take more pressure at this position. A harder ring is pushed into the sealing gap less and lasts longer there.

Where is it fitted?

Our documentation doesn't say. What counts is the number F.2.014.01 on the exploded view of your machine. Otherwise, send us the serial number and we'll check the fit.

Do I get one ring or several?

The price is for one ring. You enter the quantity in the cart.

Can I pick up the part at your Showroom?
