This set is the newer of the two versions the manufacturer lists for the Pico's grinding mechanism. The catalogue calls it "Kit konische Mahlscheiben Pico neu F." and gives it its own number: 1060. The older version is listed under 1046 and can still be ordered as a separate item.
Both sets do the same job: they give the grinding mechanism sharp cutting edges again. When a grinder has processed the same beans for years, cutting eventually turns into crushing – the shot runs unevenly, the grind setting has to go finer and finer, and the espresso still turns out thin.
Dull burrs don't announce themselves with a fault, but with a gradual decline. You turn the grind setting finer step by step, and the extraction time still stays too short. The grounds no longer feel even between your fingers; next to fine powder, they contain visibly coarser pieces.
Then there are the signs you can hear and smell: grinding the same dose takes noticeably longer than it used to, the grinder gets louder or rattles, and the grounds smell warm instead of like coffee. In the portafilter, the same thing shows up as channeling – the shot runs through faster in one spot than in the rest.
Our documentation for this item does not state a throughput in kilograms after which a replacement would be due. So we don't make one up. If you're unsure, send us two photos of the removed burrs, and we'll take a look at the edges together.

To replace the burrs, the grinding mechanism has to be opened. This exposes the drive and its power lead, and after fitting, the burrs have to be aligned with each other. We deliberately don't give step-by-step instructions here.
The reason is the zero point: after every burr change, you have to find the point again at which the burrs just barely touch. Set it too tight and then run the grinder, and you'll ruin the new edges in seconds. Have the replacement done by a qualified professional – or bring the grinder to us and we'll take care of it in our workshop.
For anyone with a newer Pico, and for anyone whose service centre or the manufacturer has explicitly specified the New F. version. If you have the number 1060 in a service document, you're in the right place.
If you don't know which of the two versions your grinder needs, write to us before ordering. It costs you one email and saves you a return, which isn't possible for service parts.
The older version is the conical burr set 39 mm under number 1046. For the mechanical overhaul of the same grinder, we carry the Rebuild Kit Drive Belt and the adjusting gear.
On top of the grinder sit the complete bean hopper and the bean hopper lid. For the Swift, we carry the ceramic burrs as a separate item.
The matching categories are La Marzocco Pico and Swift spare parts, La Marzocco accessories and spare parts and Service parts. For care: grinder cleaning with Puly Grind.
In Bern and Zurich, we clean every grinder before we talk about new burrs. Surprisingly often, it's not the edge that's dull but the grinding mechanism that's clogged with old coffee oils – a portion of grinder cleaning granules and a blown-out grinding mechanism then do more than a set of burrs. Only if the grinder is clean and the grind still stays uneven do we order burrs. That's our routine from the workshop, not a manufacturer requirement. For the test shots afterwards, we reach for Nutty Delight and Cozy Chocolate in the workshop, and for maximum body without acidity for Very Nutty; the full selection is in our coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
That depends on the serial number of your Pico, and the assignment isn't in our documentation. So we don't claim it. Send us the number, and we'll clarify it before shipping.
The simplest test is cleaning. If the grinder runs like it used to after a portion of grinder cleaning granules, it was coffee oils and not the edge. If the grind still stays uneven afterwards and the grind setting still has to be unusually fine, that points to the burrs.
The catalogue lists the item as "Kit konische Mahlscheiben Pico neu F." What the abbreviation stands for isn't stated in our documentation, and we don't interpret it.
The item name refers to a set of conical burrs. How many parts are supplied under number 1060 isn't stated in our documentation. If you need to know for sure before ordering, we'll ask for you.
Yes. In Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b, we have service parts on hand, and we'll check together with you whether the version fits your grinder.
