La Marzocco Pico Rebuild Kit Drive Belt – for overhauling the drive

Between the Pico's motor and its grinding mechanism sits a belt. It transmits the power, absorbs shocks and is the part that gives way before something more expensive does. That is exactly why it is a wear part: it ages, hardens and loses tension, even if it never snaps.

The manufacturer lists this repair kit under number 1048 as the belt repair kit for the Pico. It is the item you reach for when the grinder isn't broken but no longer starts up cleanly.

When it's due

The drive gives warning before it fails. The grinder takes noticeably longer to start up, squeaks briefly on start-up or audibly slows down under load. With a full dose it sounds more strained than with a half dose.

Another sign is black abrasion dust in the housing around the drive. If you're opening the grinder anyway to change the burrs, take a look at the belt while you're at it – opening it twice is the more unnecessary job.

Our documentation doesn't say how long a belt lasts. That's why we don't give a replacement interval or an operating life.

Important for installation

To replace the belt, the housing has to be opened. This exposes the Pico's motor, power cable and electronics, and the grinder must be disconnected from the mains beforehand. We deliberately don't provide step-by-step instructions here.

On top of that, the belt tension has to be right: too loose, and the belt slips and wears out again straight away; too tight, and the bearings carry the load. You can tell either during installation, not afterwards. Have the work done by a qualified professional, or bring the grinder to us.

Who it's for

For workshops and for technically skilled Pico owners who plan an overhaul instead of waiting for a failure. If you're opening the grinder anyway for new burrs, it makes sense to do the kit at the same time.

And for anyone who has taken over a used Pico: the belt is the part whose history you know least about and the cheapest to reset.

What goes with it

The mechanical overhaul of the same grinder also includes the adjusting gear for the grind adjustment. The cutting edges are renewed by the conical 39 mm burr set and, in the newer version, by the New F. set.

On top of the grinder sit the complete bean hopper and the bean hopper lid.

The matching categories are La Marzocco Pico and Swift spare parts, Coffee grinder accessories and spare parts and Service parts. For care: grinder cleaning with Puly Grind.

The workshop tip from Bern and Zurich

Whenever a Pico is open at our place in Bern or Zurich anyway, we always check the belt, even if the grinder is in for something else. A belt costs a fraction of a second disassembly, and nobody wants to open it up a second time. That's our workshop routine, not a manufacturer requirement. For the test shots afterwards, we reach for Nutty Delight and Cozy Chocolate in the workshop, and for maximum body without acidity for Very Nutty; you'll find the full selection in our coffee beans.

Returns excluded

Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after being installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, please check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we'll check the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is included in the kit?

The manufacturer lists the item as a belt repair kit under number 1048. Our documentation doesn't state which individual parts it supplies under it, so we don't list anything we can't verify. The grinder's motor is not included.

Do I need to replace the belt if it hasn't snapped yet?

A belt loses tension and hardens long before it snaps. If the grinder starts up sluggishly or drops off under load, replacing it makes sense. Our documentation doesn't give a fixed interval.

Does the kit also fit the Swift or the Jay?

The item name refers exclusively to the Pico. Our documentation doesn't say whether a version fits beyond that – and we don't guess.

Can I replace the belt myself?

We advise against it. The housing has to be opened, the motor and power cable are exposed, and the belt tension determines how long the new belt will last. Bring the grinder to us or have the work done by a qualified professional.

Can I see the part at your showroom?

Yes. In Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b we have spare parts on hand, and we'll check together with you whether the version fits your grinder.

Not sure whether the part fits your grinder? Email us at [email protected] with the model and serial number, and we'll check the fit together. We deliver across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2-4 working days.
