A Swan grinds fast, and anything in the grinding chamber that is not cleanly sealed off will turn up later as fine coffee dust on your counter. This PTFE ring is one of the parts that prevent exactly that: a smooth, waxy plastic ring that sits between the rotating and the stationary parts of the grinding chamber.
PTFE is ideal for this because it creates hardly any friction and does not absorb coffee oil. Even so, it wears down over time – 82 millimetres of diameter running along with every grind leave their mark. And a ring with play lets powder through long before it is actually broken.
Coffee dust in places on the grinder where there was none before. A ring that has noticeable play or is flattened on one side when you open the grinding chamber. Notches, grooves or indented material around the circumference. Grounds that no longer run cleanly into the outlet but collect in the chamber. And whenever you change the burrs – then it makes sense to replace the ring at the same time.

For businesses with a Swan whose grinder is starting to throw dust, and for service technicians who renew the wear parts of the grinding chamber during a burr change instead of opening the grinder again in three months.
You will find the smaller version with 77,5 millimetres as the PTFE ring Ø 77,5 × 1,5 mm for the Swan – please measure the diameter before ordering. Also part of the Swan are the extruder ejection cone, the O-ring 1,78 × 69,57 mm EPDM and the holder for the inner burr. The grinder itself is in the shop as the La Marzocco Swan coffee grinder, and all grinder parts are under Coffee grinder accessories and spare parts.
Workshop tip from Bern and Zurich
Our own routine, not a manufacturer specification: we clean the grinding chamber dry – brush, vacuum cleaner and, if necessary, Puly Grind Verde. Water in the grinding chamber makes coffee oil turn resinous, and resinous grease turns a sliding PTFE ring into a braking one. Afterwards we grind two batches through as sacrificial coffee before Nutty Delight is allowed back into the cup. For something sweeter, go for Cozy Chocolate, for something stronger, Very Nutty. Everything is under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured to order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on the appliance. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Part number F.4.016. The similar-looking ring with 77,5 millimetres has the number F.4.015 – the two are easy to mix up.
By the diameter. This one measures 82 millimetres, the other 77,5 millimetres. Thickness and height are given as 1,5 and 3 millimetres for both. Measure the removed ring before you order.
Our documentation lists it for the Swan. Whether your grinder needs this one or the smaller version depends on the design of the grinding chamber. Send us the serial number and we will check it.
Not necessary and, in our experience, rather harmful. PTFE slides on its own, and grease in the grinding chamber binds coffee dust into a sticky layer. Installing it dry is the better way here.
