The Swift doesn’t just grind, it tamps too. At the very bottom of the tamper shaft sits the impeller – the disc that settles on the coffee grounds, distributes them and compacts them. It touches the coffee on every single shot, and it does so under pressure. No other part of the grinder works as directly on what ends up in the cup.
That’s exactly why you notice wear in the espresso first, not on the machine: the surface of the puck becomes uneven, the shot starts off lopsided, two cups from the same grinder suddenly taste different. If you then go looking at the brew group, you’re looking in the wrong place.
After tamping, the puck is tilted, wavy or looser on one side than on the other. The shot keeps channelling in the same spot. The impeller shows grooves, chips or a worn edge. Or coffee grounds stick to the impeller and compact there into a hard layer that can only be removed with a tool.

The impeller sits on the driven part of the grinder. Before any work, switch the unit off and disconnect it from the mains – not just at the main switch, but at the plug. We deliberately don’t give step-by-step instructions here. After the replacement, check the tamper height and dosing, otherwise the puck weight will no longer match the set time.
For businesses with a Swift whose puck quality has declined, and for service technicians bringing a grinder with many operating hours back into shape. If your only problem is uneven dosing, check the burrs and the settings first.
For the smaller sibling there is the tamper impeller for the Swift Mini, plus the segment O-ring. The tamper shaft coupling provides the connection to the shaft. The grinding unit includes the ceramic burrs and the grind adjustment knob. Everything else is under Pico and Swift spare parts and in the coffee grinders section.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: With a Swift that tamps unevenly, we first photograph three pucks from above before taking anything apart – the pictures show the pattern you overlook in everyday use. This is our own routine, not a manufacturer requirement. For comparison, we then grind the same bean, usually Nutty Delight or Cozy Chocolate. If you like it stronger, go for Very Nutty; the full range is under coffee beans.
No returns
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we’ll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. The Swift Mini has its own item with the number A.5.125.R, linked above. The two are not interchangeable.
No. Only the impeller 5.331.01 is supplied. We don’t sell motors or electrical assemblies through the online shop; ask us if you need something like that.
No. The segment O-ring is a separate item and linked above – it belongs to the Swift Mini, though.
The manufacturer’s information doesn’t state a dimension, and we don’t make one up. The number 5.331.01 is what counts.
Yes. We’re in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Let us know beforehand and we’ll have it ready.
