Varia AURA Smart Kettle 0.8L – Gooseneck kettle with PID temperature control
Sunday morning. You turn the dial, set it to 93°C, and wait. Not long – under three minutes. Then you pour: slowly, in a circular motion, with control. The water hits the coffee grounds, the aroma rises, and you realize: this is a different pouring experience than with a regular kettle. You feel the resistance in the spout, you control the flow. The Varia AURA Smart Kettle 0.8L transforms boiling water into a conscious step in a ritual. PID temperature control in 1°C increments, OLED display, gooseneck spout with flow control. Constructed from 304 stainless steel. Available in two versions – Standard and FLUX Edition – from us at the Coffee Coaching Club, the official Varia importer in Switzerland .
Standard vs. FLUX Edition – what is the difference?
Both versions share the same technology: PID control, 1200W Strix heating element, OLED display, memory function, smart wake-up, and flow-control spout. The difference lies in the handle.
| feature | standard | FLUX Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Handle design | Classic handle with counterweight for balance | Ergonomic FLUX handle with multiple grip positions |
| Heating time (500ml, 25→100°C) | Approx. 2 min 50 sec (220/240V) | Approx. 2 min 35 sec (220/240V) |
| PID temperature control | Identical – 1°C increments, 40–100°C | Identical – 1°C increments, 40–100°C |

| spout | Gooseneck with flow control restrictor | Gooseneck with flow control restrictor |
| Display, Wake-Up, Memory | Identical | Identical |

The standard version has a classic handle with an integrated counterweight that aids balance while pouring. The FLUX Edition offers an ergonomically shaped handle with multiple grip positions – whether you prefer a top handle or a side grip. Which option is more comfortable is a matter of personal preference and depends on how you hold the kettle. According to the manufacturer, the FLUX Edition heats up slightly faster (approximately 15 seconds difference).
What the Varia AURA Kettle offers
The PID controller keeps the set temperature (40–100°C) stable, and the gooseneck spout with integrated flow restrictor allows a flow rate of approximately 2.2 to 22 ml/s – depending on your pouring technique. Whether it's pour-over at 93°C, green tea at 70°C, or matcha at 75–77°C – you set the temperature, the AURA maintains it.
The 1200W Strix heating element brings 500ml of water to boiling temperature in under 3 minutes. The memory function maintains the temperature for up to 90 minutes, and the smart wake-up function can be programmed so that the water is ready at a specific time.

Who is the AURA Kettle 0.8L suitable for?
The AURA 0.8L is suitable for pour-over methods such as V60, Chemex, or Kalita Wave, for tea requiring precise temperature control, and for matcha at 75–77°C. Wherever pouring speed and a stable water temperature are crucial, the gooseneck spout truly shines.
If you need larger quantities – for example, for French press, cupping sessions, or multiple infusions in succession – Varia also offers the AURA 1.5L version with a high-flow spout. The 0.8L version is deliberately designed for precision and a compact footprint.
AURA 0.8L vs. Fellow Stagg ECG
The most frequent comparison in forums is with the Fellow Stagg ECG. Both offer PID temperature control and a gooseneck design. The AURA additionally features a programmable wake-up function and a flow control restrictor in the spout. Community reviews highlight the AURA's quiet operation – the unit is virtually silent up to approximately 60°C. The FLUX handle offers more grip positions than the Stagg, while the standard handle relies on counterweight for balance. Which kettle is a better fit depends on personal preference – both are solid options in this segment.
Known limitations
- Operation when lifting: User reviews point out that you should press the button before lifting the boiler from the base. Otherwise, the device will restart when you put it back down – even if the boiler is empty. It takes some getting used to, but it's good to know.
- 0.8L capacity: This is perfectly adequate for single pour-overs. If you're planning several large pours in succession, you'll need to refill. For larger quantities, the 1.5L version is the better choice.
- Plastic base: The kettle itself is made of 304 stainless steel, but the base is made of plastic. This is common with electric kettles, but worth mentioning.
- No app connectivity: The AURA has no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. It is controlled exclusively via the rotary dial and buttons on the device. Depending on your perspective, this is either an advantage (less complexity, no firmware updates required) or a limitation.
Coffee Coaching Club tip: Water temperature and roast level
The brewing temperature influences the flavor profile in the cup. Higher temperatures (94–96°C) tend to extract more body and bitterness, while lower temperatures (88–92°C) emphasize fruity and floral notes – although this depends heavily on the roast level and grind.
As a starting point for pour-over: Our Cozy Chocolate at approximately 93–94°C, Nutty Delight in a similar range. For matcha, 75–77°C is suitable – here the PID controller shows its worth, because even a few degrees difference can change the result.

Roastery tip
The AURA Kettle is an everyday appliance that structures your day. In the morning, pour-over with our Cozy Chocolate at 93°C – the aroma of chocolate and nuts as the water slowly filters through. In the afternoon, matcha at 76°C – green, warm, and calming. In the evening, green tea at 70°C. Three different drinks, three different temperatures, one kettle. The Nutty Delight is a bit more forgiving of slight temperature fluctuations and is well-suited for practicing your pouring technique.
