After the last shot, once over the steam wand, once over the tray – and the cloth is already hanging back on the chassis.
It's the smallest movement in the whole ritual, and the one that carries the most. A wand that's wiped straight after frothing brings only milk and steam next time, and nothing from yesterday. A housing that gets a quick wipe every evening still looks like new after years. And because design and feel influence enjoyment before the first sip, a well-kept machine is more than tidiness – it's part of the moment when you're waiting for your shot. Dopamine is released while anticipating, not only while drinking.
The set contains two microfibre cloths, one in light grey and one in dark blue. The two colours aren't a coincidence: at our place, one stays with the steam wand and only comes into contact with milk, the other is for the housing, cup warmer tray and drip tray. That keeps the two uses apart without anyone having to think about it. That's how we do it, one way of many – if you do it differently, that doesn't make it wrong.
Microfibre absorbs liquid and grease without any cleaning agent having to be added, and leaves neither lint nor streaks on stainless steel. Sewn-in magnets hold the cloth on the machine's chassis, right where you reach for it, rather than on a hook on the other side of the kitchen. The ECM branding stays subtle.

For anyone who stands at a portafilter machine every day – an ECM just as much as any other machine. A barista cloth isn't a question of brand, it's a tool, and the magnets hold wherever the housing holds them.
Two separate cloths make the most sense if you work with milk a lot. If you only pull espresso, simply use the second as a spare while the first is in the wash. The ECM collection shows which machines we have, or, more broadly, the overview of coffee machines.
A cloth keeps the surfaces clean; the group head needs something else. In our machine and grinder cleaning collection you'll find what you need for the daily backflush without detergent and the round with detergent roughly every fifty shots – the latter takes about five minutes.
If you froth milk, you'll find both routes in milk pitchers and barista jugs: for anyone who wants an affordable, precise pitcher, the Normcore pitchers are a calm choice – if you want shape, weight and spout on another level, reach for Weber Workshops. The same goes for tamping: Normcore Spring-Loaded for the affordable route, Weber Workshops for anyone who wants more.
Two microfibre barista cloths, one in light grey and one in dark blue, both with subtle ECM branding.
The magnets are sewn into the cloth and hold it on the machine's chassis, within easy reach where you work. Whether they stick to your housing depends on the material – you can try that in person in our showrooms.
So the uses can be kept apart: one for the steam wand and milk, one for the housing, cup warmer tray and drip tray. That's how we do it, one way of many.
Not for the surfaces – microfibre works without chemical additives. The group head is a separate job: backflush daily without detergent, and roughly every fifty shots once with detergent, which takes about five minutes.
Yes. A microfibre cloth doesn't depend on the brand, and the magnets hold wherever the housing can carry them.
Yes. You can see our range in person in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. If you order online: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
You taste a clean wand above all in milk drinks. With Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, the sweetness of the milk meets chocolate and nuts without anything getting in the way. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, reach for Very Nutty. And if you're curious, go for Wild Peach – fruity, lively, a discovery on the side. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
