The tip dips in, a fine hiss – and the milk starts to roll: no coarse bubbling, but an even, glossy whirlpool.
Nobody needs a different steam tip. The one that came with your machine froths milk. You want this one because you're curious how the texture changes when the steam enters the milk differently. That's a decision made out of curiosity, and it's completely legitimate.
A steam tip determines how the steam's energy gets into the milk. Five outlets split the steam into several jets: the milk is set spinning more strongly, and the air drawn in is broken up into fine bubbles more quickly. What you get is a microfoam texture – a surface that shines and feels fluid as you pour.
Perception begins long before the first sip. Gloss, density and the warmth on your fingers shape the anticipation, and dopamine is released in anticipation, not only at the moment of enjoyment. The vessel plays a part too: colour and material measurably change perception.
Whether you like five holes better than two or four is a matter of taste. There are no espresso laws and no espresso police – what counts is what works in your cup. Our opinion is one of many.

For anyone who froths milk at home and wants to work on the texture – whether for cappuccino, flat white or simply because the foam should shine more beautifully. Since we don't have a model list, the first step is always the same: check whether your machine has a screw-on tip and which thread it uses. We're happy to clarify this with you before you order – better to ask once than end up with a tip that doesn't fit.
Frothing calls for the right pitcher: for anyone who wants an affordable, precise milk pitcher, Normcore is a good fit; if you'd like more elaborate materials, take a look at Weber Workshops – the full selection is under milk pitchers and barista jugs. You'll find matching machines under coffee machines and more tools in barista equipment.
We don't have a model list from the manufacturer for this, so we deliberately don't name any machines here. The tip screws onto an existing steam wand, which means the thread and fit have to match. Send your machine's item number or rating plate to [email protected] and we'll clarify it before you order.
It splits the steam into several jets. The milk is set spinning more strongly, and the air drawn in is broken up into fine bubbles more quickly – the texture turns into fine, glossy microfoam.
After each frothing, wipe the outside and purge briefly with steam so no milk dries on the inside. If individual holes clog, it helps to soak the unscrewed tip in warm water.
Whole milk holds foam very reliably thanks to its protein and fat content. Plant-based options made specifically for barista use also work well. Here too: there's no right and no wrong, what counts is what you enjoy.

Dense milk calls for a bean that carries through the foam. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight come through full-bodied, dense and round. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; if you're looking for a fruity experience, Wild Peach brings a lively peach note. That's our recommendation – one of many. Any other bean you enjoy works just as well.
