A small black ring, barely heavier than a grain of rice – and yet it keeps the water exactly where it's meant to go into the coffee.
Nobody thinks about this part until it makes itself known. You order it because you have the group head open anyway – or because you've noticed that something no longer sits right. Both are good reasons.
The shower plate sits between the brew group and the coffee and distributes the water before it reaches the screen. The O-ring seals it against the group. As long as it stays elastic, the water has only one way to go: through the plate, through the screen, into the puck. Once it hardens, some of the water finds its way around the outside – and exactly that part contributes nothing to extraction, it only dilutes.
Because water makes up over 90 percent of an espresso, this shows directly in the cup. The shot tastes thinner, and the brew ratio no longer matches what actually passed through the coffee. That's why we always work by weight, usually 1:2, never by time alone – but that assumes the water really takes the intended path. That's our view, one of many.
An O-ring takes little effort and lasts a long time. If you're taking the group head apart for cleaning anyway, it makes sense to have it ready together with the group head screen and the group gasket.

For anyone with one of the machines listed above who wants to service the group head or replace a hardened seal. Changing it is one of the simplest jobs on a portafilter machine and needs no special tools. No setup is too modest or too big for it – a machine that seals properly makes better coffee everywhere.
For regular care afterwards: machine and grinder cleaning. If you have the group head open, take a look at the baskets under precision baskets and filter baskets too. And so the puck sits level before the shot: affordable and precise with Normcore, with more elaborate materials with Weber Workshops – you'll find the selection under tampers.
The manufacturer lists the ECM Casa, Profitec GO, Profitec MOVE, Profitec Pro 300 and the Lelit PL82T, PL91T and PL92T. Because O-rings come in many diameters and cord thicknesses, if you're unsure: send the item number or rating plate of your machine to [email protected], and we'll check it before you order.
The manufacturer doesn't list the PL41PLUS for this O-ring – but it does for the matching group head screen. If you run a PL41PLUS, please give us your machine's item number beforehand so we don't have to guess.
It becomes hard and loses its elasticity, often visible as cracks or a flattened shape. In practice, this shows up as water running past the shower plate and as a shot that tastes thinner than usual.
It makes sense. If you're taking the group head apart anyway, replace the group head screen and the group gasket at the same time – then the group is fresh again in one go.
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see the part in person and go through with us whether it suits your setup.

When the water flows completely through the puck again, you'll taste the difference especially well with dense beans. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight extract full-bodied, dense and round. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you're looking for something fruity, Wild Peach brings a lively peach note. That's our recommendation – one of many. Any other bean you enjoy works just as well.
