The motor starts, the beans catch – and month after month the grounds fall the same way: the same setting, the same picture in the dosing cup.
Nobody needs the titanium version. Some want it because the longer service life is worth something to them; others stay with the standard version and are just as happy with it. Both paths are valid, and our opinion on this is one of many.
Titanium burrs are used where the cutting edge is meant to last longer – for example when a lot is ground every day. So the benefit lies less in a different taste on day one than in how long the grind stays the same. Whether that's worth it for you simply depends on how much goes through your grinder.
The physics of the result stays the same: particle size and evenness determine the quality of the extraction. A sharp edge cuts the bean and creates a narrow range of particle sizes, so the water meets the same resistance everywhere. Burr sets are like car engines in this respect: subjective, and there is no best one.
By the way, no shot is exactly repeatable – the bean and the humidity change every day, and so do you. A burr that holds its cut for a long time at least takes one variable out of the equation. That's our observation; others see it differently.

For anyone with a 64 mm grinder from ECM or Profitec that goes through a lot of coffee – and for anyone who simply wants peace of mind for a long time. If you rarely grind, the standard version in the same size serves you just as well; no budget is merely a starting point. All that matters is that the four dimensions and the model match.
The matching grinders are in our coffee grinder collection, more parts under coffee grinder accessories and spare parts. To see the new cut, a scale helps: affordable and precise with Normcore, with app and flow-rate display with Acaia. You'll find tools for dosing and distribution in barista equipment.
The manufacturer lists the ECM S-Manuale 64, the ECM S-Automatik 64, the ECM V-Titan and the Profitec Pro T64. The burrs measure 64 mm outside and 37 mm inside, are 9 mm high and have three mounting holes. If you're unsure, send the item number of your grinder to [email protected] – we'll check it before you order.
Both have the same dimensions. The titanium version is designed to keep its cutting edge longer. The manufacturer's fit information also differs: the ECM V-Titan is only listed for the titanium version.
It depends on the quantity. If you grind several shots a day, you'll have a consistent grind for longer. If you make two cups at the weekend, you won't notice a difference in the cup. Both are fine – that's our assessment, one of many.
Yes. New burrs shift the zero point, so you set the grind size again and let the first doses break them in. We start from a 1:2 ratio by weight.
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see the part in person and go through with us whether it suits your setup.
2 to 4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon is also possible.
A burr that holds its cut rewards beans you drink the same way for weeks. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight run through full-bodied, dense and round. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you're looking for a fruity experience, Wild Peach lets you discover a lively peach note. That's our recommendation – one of many. Any other bean you enjoy works just as well.
