Lid off, fresh water flows in, the float rises – and the machine is ready again.
Nobody plans to buy a water tank. It comes up when the old one shows cracks, when a second one in the house would be handy, or when the switch to filtered water is due. Whether it's worth it is your call – our opinion is one of many.
This is the wide, flat design for the larger ECM housings. It comes fully pre-assembled: with a float for water level detection and with the adapter for the Brita Aroma-C water filter already fitted. So you don't need to modify anything to switch from unfiltered to filtered water – the holder is already there.
Water makes up more than ninety percent of an espresso, and it's the solvent for everything that comes out of the coffee. Coffee contains more than 800 compounds; which of them end up in the cup also depends on how many minerals the water already brings with it. A mineral content of 50 to 100 mg/l is considered the ideal range – water that's too soft tastes flat, water that's too hard binds aromas and deposits limescale in the boiler.
The float is more than a convenience: it tells the machine when the level gets too low, before the pump runs dry. That's why, for many, a second tank in the cupboard brings peace of mind – one sits in the machine, the other gets filled overnight.

For everyone in Switzerland who has one of the ECM machines listed above at home – whether for ten years or ten months. For anyone who wants a replacement tank because the existing one is getting on in years. And for anyone who wants to switch to filtered water without tinkering with their existing tank. The swap is done by hand, without tools: old tank out, new one in.
You'll find the matching filter cartridges and everything about water in our Brita collection. If you're looking after the group head anyway, take a look at machine and grinder cleaning for regular backflushing. And because good water only really shows what it can do with an even grind: for anyone who wants an affordable, precise grinder, the Varia VS3 from our coffee grinders is a good starting point; if you want more, you'll find the EG-1 at Weber Workshops. More parts are in the ECM collection.
It's the wide, flat design and fits the ECM Mechanika IV, Technika IV, Mechanika Profi Rota, Technika Profi Rota, Technika V PID, Elektronika Profi II and Elektronika Profi Due. For the Classika, Mechanika Slim, Synchronika and all Profitec machines, there's the tall, narrow design. If you're unsure, send us your machine's item number or rating plate at [email protected].
Yes. The tank comes fully pre-assembled with a float for water level detection and with the adapter for the Brita Aroma-C water filter fitted.
No. The tank is removed and inserted from above. The only important thing is that the float can move freely and the connections sit properly.
Water makes up more than ninety percent of an espresso. A mineral content of 50 to 100 mg/l is considered the ideal range. Water that's too soft tastes flat, water that's too hard binds aromas and deposits limescale – a filter in the tank keeps this within a good range.
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see the part in person and go through with us whether it suits your setup.
2 to 4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon is also possible.
Fresh water and a dense roast are the simplest upgrade of all. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight run through full-bodied, dense and round. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you're looking for a fruity experience, Wild Peach lets you discover a lively peach note. That's our recommendation – one of many. Any other bean you enjoy works just as well.
