Two knobs and a lever knob – that's all it takes for a machine you touch every morning to feel different.
Plastic is functional and fades from your awareness. Wood doesn't. It takes on warmth, it has texture under your fingertips, and it makes itself felt every time you reach for it. Design and feel influence the enjoyment before the first sip arrives – material, colour and surface measurably change how we judge what then ends up in the cup. The limbic system doesn't draw a clean line between what the hand feels and what the tongue reports.
The conversion kit replaces three controls on the MaraX: two zebrano wood knobs for the steam and hot water wands, plus a knob for the brew lever. Fitting instructions and all the necessary components are included.
Zebrano is an exotic wood with a distinct, striped grain – boldly figured, with warm base tones. Every piece turns out differently; no two sets ever look the same. Wood also keeps working: its tone changes over the years, as is the way with a natural material.
It doesn't make the espresso measurably better. That's not the point either. Nobody needs wood on an espresso machine – you want it or you don't, and both are fine. If you want it, you know why, and that's enough. Our opinion is one of many. In the end, one thing applies anyway: no espresso laws, no espresso police, the coffee has to taste good.

For anyone with a Lelit MaraX who wants to make the machine a little more their own. It's the smallest change that makes sense: three parts, one set of instructions, one afternoon. After that, your hand meets wood instead of plastic – and that's worth exactly as much as it's worth to you.
If you have a MaraX3, you need the other set – that one includes the Pagaia. Both sit side by side in the portafilter handles and replacement handles collection, and the Lelit espresso machines show which Lelit machine belongs to which generation.
Wood on the machine calls for wood on the portafilter: the portafilters and bottomless portafilters collection has the Lelit models with a zebrano handle, bottomless and with two spouts.
For the tools alongside, the usual applies: for anyone who wants an affordable, precise tamper, WDT tool and scale, the Normcore barista tools are the way to go. If you want more, you'll find the Weber Tamper and the Moonraker at Weber Workshops, and an app, flow-rate display and Bluetooth with the Acaia scales. No budget is merely a starting point – affordable tools make good espresso.
The Lelit MaraX. It consists of two zebrano wood knobs for the steam and hot water wands and one knob for the brew lever.
No. The group paddle belongs to the Iconic set for the MaraX3. This set contains the two wand knobs and the knob for the brew lever.
Yes. Fitting instructions and all the necessary components are included. If you're unsure, just get in touch with us.
Wiping them dry is enough. Zebrano is a natural material, every grain turns out differently, and the tone changes over the years. That's part of it.
Yes. In Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b, you can see it in person. If you buy online in Switzerland: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
A conversion is a good occasion to get to know the machine all over again – and for that, it's best to use a bean that gives you honest feedback on what you're doing. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are our first choice for this: dense, round, caramel and chocolate. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty, and if you're curious, Wild Peach offers a fruity experience on the side. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
