A ring the size of a coin – and it decides whether the water takes its path through the coffee or around it.
The shower plate sits in the group and distributes the water before it reaches the screen. The O-ring behind it seals it against the housing. It's the smallest part in the group head and one of the few you only notice once they stop doing what they're supposed to.
Silicone ages under heat. Over the years the ring loses its elasticity, becomes firm and no longer sits cleanly in its groove. Then some of the water finds its way past the edge of the shower plate instead of passing evenly through the surface.
In the cup, this isn't a loud event but a quiet one. The shot becomes less steady, the body thinner, the sweetness no longer fully comes through – because pressure shapes the aromatic time window, and different compounds dissolve at different moments. Where the pressure escapes, that window shifts.
Replacing it takes a few minutes and usually happens together with the group head gasket and the shower screen. If you have the group open anyway, you do all three at once. That's our order of doing things – one of many.

For anyone with an Anna or Anita who wants to renew everything in the group at the next service. The ring is the least expensive of those parts and still has a noticeable share in how cleanly the water flows through.
No budget is just a beginning here. The smallest part in the group can make as much of a difference as a new grinder – just in a different place.
If the group is open anyway, it's worth looking at what comes next. Distributing the grounds in the basket decides whether the water passes through evenly: for anyone who wants a WDT tool that's affordable and precise: Normcore. If you want more, go for the Moonraker from Weber Workshops.
For the backflush afterwards, powder and brushes are under machine and grinder cleaning – daily without detergent, about every fifty shots with detergent, around five minutes. You'll find more spare parts for the brand in the Lelit collection.
It's specified for the Lelit PL41EM, PL41TEM, PL42EMI and PL42TEMD – the 57 mm group of Anna and Anita. Lelit's 58 mm groups use a different O-ring. If you're unsure, send us the item number or the rating plate of your machine at [email protected] – we'll check the fit before you order.
When you take it out, it feels hard and no longer springs back. Often the shot has already become less steady beforehand, without anything having changed in grind size or dose.
It makes sense if the group is open anyway. We stock the group head gasket, O-ring and shower screen individually, each to fit the 57 mm group. It isn't necessary – it just saves you a second round.
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see the part in person and go through with us whether it fits your machine.

After a service, the first shot is often tasted more consciously than usual – after all, dopamine is released while anticipating, not only while enjoying. For that, we recommend Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight from our coffee roastery: dense, aromatic, full-bodied. If you're after body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty, and if you're curious about fruit, you'll find it in Wild Peach. Our opinion is one of many.
