MHW-3BOMBER Blade R3 Hand Grinder – set the grind from the outside, click by click
You turn the numbered ring at the top of the grinder, and every click engages noticeably. Then you attach the long crank, the walnut handle rests steadily in your hand, and the beans run evenly through the burr. Finally you take off the magnetic catch cup, and the grounds are ready for portafilter or filter. The Blade R3 by MHW-3BOMBER is a hand grinder for anyone who likes to dial in precisely.
At its heart is the Rapidity-3 conical burr made of stainless steel, 48 mm in diameter with seven cutting edges. The shaft runs in three bearings so the burr stays stable even at fine settings. You set the grind size from the outside: 60 clicks per rotation, each click moves the burr by around 0.016 mm, and there are 180 clicks in total. The grinder holds around 20 g of beans, which in our experience is enough for a double espresso or a large cup of filter coffee.
Five sieves for filter coffee
A sieve can be inserted into the catch cup to separate fine particles from the grounds. Five sieves with mesh sizes of 300, 400, 500, 600 and 850 µm are included. In our experience the sieves bring more clarity to the cup, especially with filter coffee. For espresso, simply leave the sieve out.
Blade R3 or Race M1?
The Race M1 by MHW-3BOMBER is the more compact sister with a 38 mm burr and a weight of 500 g. The Blade R3 weighs 725 g, has the larger burr and the finer external adjustment. If you experiment a lot with espresso or often switch between espresso and filter, the Blade R3 is in our experience the more comfortable choice.
Cleaning
The grinder comes apart, giving you easy access to the burr. A dry brush, which is included, and an air blower are all you need for cleaning. No water is required.

Who it’s made for
For home baristas who grind espresso and filter coffee by hand and want to dial in precisely. For anyone who enjoys experimenting with grind size and sieves, and for travelling, when the coffee should be right in the holiday flat too. Ours is one opinion among many: if you grind several espressos for the whole family every morning, an electric grinder will make life easier.
Tip from our café: In our experience the fine adjustment of the Blade R3 shows its strength especially with espresso. With Cozy Chocolate you quickly find a round, chocolatey shot. With Bright Cassis you go a few clicks coarser for filter coffee and use the 500 µm sieve to explore how the fruit note changes. For a strong espresso with plenty of body and hardly any acidity: Very Nutty. That is our recommendation, one of many.
What goes with it
For espresso, the MHW-3BOMBER Lightning WDT Tool 2.0 helps distribute the grounds evenly in the portafilter; for filter coffee, the MHW-3BOMBER Elf Coffee Server 500 ml. You will find more models under hand coffee grinders, all products of the brand under MHW-3BOMBER and freshly roasted beans under coffee beans.
