Profitec PRO CUPS matte black – espresso and cappuccino cups in a set of 4

The cup sits warm in your hand, pleasantly tempered on the outside, while inside the espresso stays hot for longer than you'd expect.

Why the vessel shapes the taste

The pleasure begins before the first sip. The weight in your hand, the matte surface, the dark interior against which the crema suddenly looks different: vessel, colour and material measurably change perception, and your limbic system has long since decided what it thinks of this moment before the first aromas rise retronasally to the olfactory mucosa as you swallow.

Then there's the physical side. Between the two walls of these cups there's a gap, and air is a poor conductor of heat. So the inside stays hot for longer while the outside stays pleasantly tempered. Because temperature helps decide which compounds come through – higher means more body, lower means more complexity and aroma – an espresso in a cup that holds its temperature changes more slowly and stays closer, all the way through, to what you had with the first sip.

The outer shape is cut so the cups are comfortable to hold, and the saucers are large enough to really help when serving. Nobody needs these cups. You either want them or you don't, and both are completely fine. If you want them, you know why. Our opinion is only one of many anyway.

Who they're made for

For anyone who doesn't just drink their espresso but loves the moment around it. For anyone whose machine is matte black and who wants to carry that through on the counter. For anyone who has guests and needs four cups that match. And for anyone who simply likes holding something that feels good in the hand.

This applies equally to every budget. No setup is merely a starting point, and a beautiful cup belongs to it just as much as a good grinder. More sizes and shapes are in our cups for espresso, cappuccino and latte art.

What goes well with it

The 200 ml version calls for milk foam that pours. For anyone who wants an affordable, precise pitcher: the pitchers from our Normcore collection. If you want more, go for Rhino or the Weber Workshops collection. They all sit side by side in our milk pitchers.

And the grinder has a say in what ends up in the cup. The Varia VS3, the Comandante C40 and the hand grinders from Timemore grind affordably and precisely. If you want more, you'll end up with the Varia VS6, the Weber EG-1 or the Option-O Lagom. The overview is in our coffee grinders, and the freshly roasted beans to go with them come from our own coffee roastery.

Frequently asked questions

How many cups are in a set?

Profitec supplies both sizes in packs of four cups, each with matching saucers.

What sizes are available?

The Espresso Cups hold 70 ml, the Cappuccino Cups 200 ml. Both are made of double-walled porcelain in matte black.

Why double-walled porcelain?

There's a gap between the two walls. This keeps the temperature inside the cup for longer, while the outer wall stays at a pleasantly lower temperature and is easy to hold.

Does the cup change the taste?

Vessel, colour and material measurably change perception – that's well researched. A cup that holds its temperature also keeps the aroma profile stable for longer, because temperature helps decide which compounds come through. How strongly that affects you is individual. Our opinion is one of many.

Can I see the product before buying?

Yes. In our showrooms in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b, you can see both sizes in person and hold them in your hand.

How quickly do you deliver, and where to?

We deliver within 2 to 4 working days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein. Questions are welcome by email to [email protected] or by phone during business hours.

Orders are placed online – that's the normal way with us. If you'd like to know something beforehand, write to us at [email protected] or drop by coffeecoachingclub.ch. You can reach us by phone during business hours.

From our coffee roastery

As a coffee roastery, we see every day how differently the same bean can taste. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are what we recommend to most people: round, sweet, dense, with chocolate and caramel. Very Nutty is the choice for maximum body without acidity.

And as a discovery now and then: Wild Peach, light roasted and fruity. That's our recommendation, one of many. There's no bean that doesn't work here.
