Acaia Orion Mini – compact bean doser by weight
The bar is narrow, every inch counts. The Orion Mini fits where nothing else does – and doses just as smoothly as its big brother. You place the cup on the small platform, turn the wheel, and the beans flow until the weight is right. No more space is needed.
It's the solution for tight counters that don't want to compromise on precision: same technology, same process, smaller footprint.
What makes the Acaia Orion Mini special
The Orion Mini doses whole beans by weight before they go into the grinder – 225 grams in twelve seconds, 20 grams in three, with an error margin of only two to three beans. What's special is the platform of about ten centimeters: significantly more compact than the approximately twenty centimeters of the large Orion, without losing functionality or precision. A patented auger gently moves the beans without damaging them.
Using the rotary knob, you can save three target weights and choose between three modes: Precision, Fast, and Green – finely tuned for small doses, large quantities, and green coffee. In fully automatic mode, the Mini doses cup after cup, completely without pressing a button, and adjusts itself ever more finely over time. In scale mode, it also functions as a bench scale with a 3000-gram capacity.
For us, this fits into a simple belief: good coffee begins with the ratio, and an espresso, for example, at a 1:2 ratio, relies on the input quantity being right. No shot is like yesterday's, because bean, humidity, and people change daily – a constant dose at least takes one variable out of the equation.
Do you need something like that? Honestly: no. A scale and some routine will also do. The Mini is for those who, despite limited space, don't want to do without a smooth, consistent workflow. You either want it or you don't. Both are perfectly fine, and that's just our view, one of many.

Who the Orion Mini is for
The Orion Mini is for anyone with limited counter space who still wants to consistently dose by weight – the compact coffee bar, the tight counter, the tidy cupping station. Those who need more throughput and a larger hopper will find the larger version in the original Orion; those who want to dose individual doses very precisely and create blends should look at the Orion Nano. How does the Orion Mini differ from the large Orion?
Mainly in footprint: The Mini has a platform of about ten centimeters, the original Orion about twenty. Dosing performance, modes, and the 3000g scale function remain the same – so the Mini doesn't sacrifice precision, but fits on much narrower counters.
How fast and accurately does the Orion Mini dose?
It doses 225 grams in twelve seconds and 20 grams in three seconds, with an error margin of only two to three beans. With the three modes Precision, Fast, and Green, you can cover small doses, large quantities, and green coffee.
Can the Orion Mini also serve as a scale?
Yes. In scale mode, it functions as a bench scale with a 3000 gram capacity and 0.1 g resolution – practical when there's little space on the bar anyway and one device needs to perform multiple tasks.

Roaster Tip
In tight spaces, we appreciate the Mini for not trading precision for space. When we then pull an espresso, we often reach for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – full-bodied, sweet, dense. For those who like it full and round without any acidity, Very Nutty is a good choice; for a fruity experiment, Wild Peach is added. This is our recommendation, one of many, and any bean you like is the right one.
