Over time, some play can develop here. The ring still turns, but the adjustment no longer responds quite as directly as on day one – the felt resistance softens, the precision fades. A new adjusting gear brings the mechanism back on point.

The Pico is deliberately built with stepless, continuous adjustment that still gives a noticeable "step" feel as you turn it – you feel the clicks, even though the adjustment isn't actually stepped. This feel is created mechanically, right at the adjusting gear. If the gear is worn, this exact feedback changes during dial-in – and with it, how reliably you find your espresso grind size again.
