Wiedemann WDT Needle Distribution Tool Walnut – distribute your grounds with a walnut handle
Fine needles draw circles through the grounds, clumps break up, the coffee lies evenly in the basket: the Wiedemann WDT with a walnut wood handle.
Evenly distributed grounds give the water a similar resistance everywhere. The water flows more evenly through the puck instead of finding individual channels. Less channelling means a more consistent extraction from shot to shot.
Every shot is still unique; the bean, the humidity and you yourself change every day. We go by weight ratio and usually start espresso at 1:2. Our opinion is one of many; what matters is that you enjoy it.
The needles are replaceable, two spare needles are included. The wooden parts are handmade by the Wiedemann Manufaktur in Baienfurt, Baden-Württemberg. The grain makes every piece unique, and the colour of the wood changes over time.

Who it is for
For everyone who makes espresso with a portafilter and wants more evenness in puck preparation. Other wood types and accessories are in the Wiedemann collection, more tools in our barista equipment.
After distributing comes the tamper. For everyone who wants an affordable and precise tamper: Normcore. For more: Weber Workshops. The full range is under tampers. The same goes for scales: compact and precise from Normcore, with app and flow-rate display from Acaia. The foundation remains the grounds from one of our coffee grinders.
Putting together a new setup? Our advice tool helps you narrow down machine and grinder. You can see much of it live in our showrooms in Bern, Gerberngasse 44, and Zurich Oerlikon, Hagenholzstrasse 50b.
Frequently asked questions
What does a WDT tool do for espresso?
It breaks up clumps in the grounds and distributes the coffee evenly in the basket. The water flows more evenly through the puck and channelling becomes less frequent.
Does the Wiedemann WDT come with spare needles?
Yes. Two spare needles are included, and the needles are replaceable.
Does the Wiedemann WDT fit the HangUp holder?
Yes. Wiedemann lists the WDT as compatible with the HangUp system.
Tip from the roastery: While distributing, you feel what the grounds are like. For dense, chocolatey espresso we roast Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, for maximum body without acidity Very Nutty. That is our recommendation, one of many.
