With the Lunar Base, the scale glides smoothly over the slots, sits higher, and is shielded from heat and moisture – and the weight is accurate, without the tray interfering.
It's an inconspicuous part that, in continuous operation on the machine, makes the difference between "it's okay" and "it works."
The Lunar Base is a reinforced base mounted on the bottom of the Acaia Lunar. Its enlarged profile acts as a shield between the scale and the drip tray: it protects the sensitive electronics from the heat and moisture that collect in shallow drip trays, and prevents tray edges or splashing water from disrupting the movement of the weighing surface – exactly what otherwise falsifies measurements.
The outer base is made of polycarbonate and allows the scale to glide easily over slotted drip grids – practical if you frequently move the Lunar during operation. It extends about 4 mm per side beyond the Lunar, creating the necessary distance to the tray edge. This part is primarily designed for intensive, daily use on an espresso machine, where stable, repeatable results are crucial. Whether you need it depends on your setup – this is just our view, one of many.

The Lunar Base is aimed at anyone who permanently uses their Acaia Lunar as an espresso scale on the drip tray – especially where a lot of coffee is brewed and the tray is shallow or slotted. Those who only occasionally use the Lunar at home can usually manage without it. Important to know: The Base is specifically made for the Lunar and is mounted on it. Every setup is welcome here.

No. The Lunar Base is specifically designed for the Acaia Lunar and is mounted on the bottom of this scale. It is not intended for other models.
It is attached to the bottom of the Lunar. The scope of delivery includes an aluminum inner base as a replacement, the polycarbonate outer base, as well as the necessary hardware and tool.
Usually not essential. It plays its strength primarily in frequent, commercial operation on shallow or slotted drip trays. For occasional home use, it is a sensible but optional addition.
Anyone who leaves the Lunar running on the machine all day will quickly notice how much more steadily it sits on the tray with the Base. For the espresso afterward, we gladly reach for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – full-bodied, sweet, dense. If you like it full and round without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; for a fruity experience, Wild Peach goes into the grinder. This is our recommendation, one of many, and every bean you enjoy is the right one.
