Comandante X25 Trailmaster – Outdoor Hand Grinder Made of QTP
Backpack open, grinder out, crank attached – freshly ground on the mountain just as in the kitchen. The polygonal body reflects light in shifting facets, and in your hand the X25 feels light yet substantial. It's the rugged outdoor sibling of the C40, built for life on the move, with the same familiar grind quality.
It comes in two versions with different burrs: Dune with the classic Nitro Blade, Forest with the Tigershark burr set. As a partner of Comandante, we carry the grinder, made in Germany, in both variants.
What makes the X25 special
QTP body, made from a single piece
The polygonal uni-body is made of QTP, a quartz-reinforced high-performance technopolymer: impact-resistant, heat-resistant, water- and food-safe, and completely aluminum-free – more practical for travel than grinders with a glass container.
Light and compact
At around 420 grams, the X25 is about a third lighter than the C40 and fits into any backpack. A silicone pop lid seals the burr chamber during transport, protecting it from dust and moisture.
Comandante click system
The stepped click mechanism gives you control over every brew method and locks your setting reliably in place – so you find your reference point again, shot after shot.
Two burr sets to choose from
Dune with the Nitro Blade, like the C40, for classic coffee; Forest with Tigershark burrs made of Nitro Rex for dense light roasts and even grains.
Two versions: Dune and Forest
The Dune carries the same Nitro-Blade conical burr set as the C40 – nitrogen-rich martensitic stainless steel, wear-resistant and flavor-neutral, built for the full range from espresso to French press.
The Forest houses the Tigershark burr set with double-shark-tip geometry, made of Nitro-Rex steel. The double cutting edge processes even dense, light roasts efficiently and handles semi-elastic materials like grains with ease – coating-free, corrosion- and wear-resistant, and fully washable. Axle, crank, and bearings are made of stainless steel, the knob from European oak.

Who it's for
For anyone who doesn't want to go without freshly ground coffee on the move – camping, traveling, or at the office. The slimmer body also sits well in smaller hands. If you like working with dense light roasts or even other grinding materials, reach for the Forest; if you want the classic coffee burr set, go for the Dune. The heavier stainless steel version for home is the C40 from our Comandante collection. With espresso, there's no "right" or "wrong": grind size, dose, and ratio are the dials you use to find your own taste.
What goes with it
For care and fine-tuning, you'll find knobs, containers, and more accessories in our Comandante collection. While traveling, the Aeropress is the natural companion, and at home a pour-over dripper from the Hario collection. A scale rounds out the workflow – affordable, from the Normcore range or with an app, from the Acaia collection. Plus fresh beans from our coffee bean selection.
Experience it live in Bern and Zürich
The click, the weight, and the feel of a hand grinder are best experienced yourself. Come by, and we'll show you Dune and Forest side by side – bringing your own beans is welcome.
Order directly online once you've picked the version — Dune or Forest. Delivery across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein typically takes 2–4 business days; Click & Collect is available at both locations.
Roastery tip
With the Dune and a chocolatey, nutty profile like Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight you're spot on for both espresso and filter; for maximum body without acidity, Very Nutty. The Forest plays to its strengths with lighter, fruity beans – for example Wild Peach shines in the pour-over. Every bean we roast lives in our coffee bean selection. That's our recommendation, one of many.
Frequently asked questions about the Comandante X25 Trailmaster
What's the difference between Dune and Forest?
The body is identical, the burr set isn't. The Dune uses the Nitro-Blade burr set, like the C40, built for classic coffee from espresso to French press. The Forest has the Tigershark burr set made of Nitro Rex, which also processes dense light roasts and even grains efficiently.
What sets the X25 apart from the C40?
The X25 is made of impact-resistant QTP technopolymer, about a third lighter, and built for outdoor use, with a capacity of around 25 to 28 grams. The C40 is the heavier stainless steel grinder with a larger capacity.
How do I clean the X25 Trailmaster?
The QTP body is water-resistant, and the Forest's Nitro-Rex burr set is fully washable. To clean, disassemble the grinder and brush out the parts or blow out the coffee dust, then let it dry thoroughly. The grinder doesn't belong in the dishwasher.
