The ring that keeps the ram centred
The guide ring sits in the portafilter mount and gives the tamper ram its path. 61 millimetres in diameter, 2.5 millimetres thick: it determines whether the ram moves centrally into the basket on every cycle or ends up a few tenths off over time.
This version belongs to the Q series, specifically the fifth-generation Q1 and the Q2. It is a wear part: the ring wears in, develops scoring, and the resulting play shows up as a lopsided tamp long before anyone opens the unit.
When it's due
It is due when the puck sits higher on one side, when the ram has noticeable play in the ring, when the ring shows scoring, notches or cracks, or when it has become deformed.

Important for installation
The ring sits in the moving mount of the tamper. Before starting work, disconnect the unit from the mains, and after the replacement, do a test run with an empty portafilter before working with coffee again. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here.
Who it's for
For businesses running a Q1 or Q2 in continuous use and for service companies that carry the ring in their van instead of reordering it.
What goes with it
For the M series we stock the guide ring for M3 to M6, plus the lower clamping ring and the portafilter rest slide. The whole range is listed under Macap and PuqPress spare parts and under Puqpress.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
We lay the old and the new ring side by side on the workbench before fitting. The scoring is immediately visible in comparison, but almost never on the installed part – that is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. We then check with whatever is in the grinder, usually Nutty Delight, otherwise Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. The full selection is under Coffee beans.
No returns
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after being installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we'll check the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
Does it also fit an older Q1?
Our documentation lists the Q1 generation 5 and the Q2. It says nothing about older generations – send us the serial number and we'll check.
How does it differ from the ring for M3 to M6?
Both are specified as 61 × 2.5 mm, but they have different part numbers and are assigned to different machine series. Order by machine, not by dimensions.
How can I tell that the ring and not the setting is to blame?
If the puck always sits higher on the same side regardless of dose and grind size, that points to the guide rather than the recipe.
Are fixings included?
The ring is supplied on its own.
Can I pick up the part from your shop?
Yes. We're in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a quick message saying which part you need and we'll have it ready.
