The funnel sits on the portafilter, grinding begins – and for the first time in a while, every ground lands exactly where it should, instead of on the drip tray or the kitchen floor. Funnel off, leveler-tamper insert on, one turn, a light press – the puck ends up as flat underneath as it is on top. One motion instead of three tools you'd otherwise have to hunt for first.
Freshly ground coffee never falls perfectly evenly into the basket – small mounds, dense corners, a slope to one side. Tamp straight over that and the surface looks flat, but the distribution underneath stays uneven. During extraction, water then takes the path of least resistance, and the espresso turns bitter in one spot and thin in another. The Puck Prep Tool separates the three steps cleanly: the funnel guides the grounds into the basket without spilling, the leveling ring distributes the surface with a simple turn, and the tamper disc then presses down evenly. No re-adjusting, no extra tapping.
Polished stainless steel, engraved Olympia logo, made in Schwanden in the canton of Glarus – in the same workshop where the Cremina itself is built. No superfluous shapes, just three tools doing their job together. Typically Olympia: understated and built to last.

Nobody needs a third tool for puck prep – you want it, or you do perfectly well without it. For anyone curious, we offer a few honest options at different price points.
For those who'd rather put together a funnel, tamper, and if needed a WDT tool separately: the Normcore Collection covers each step solidly and affordably. Functionally, the result is the same, just in three pieces instead of one.
This tool here. Funnel, leveling ring and tamper in a single piece, made in the same workshop as your Cremina. For anyone who wants their setup to stay consistent – machine, accessories and aesthetics all from the same house.
For those who prefer separate precision tools: the Weber Workshops Dosing Cup and Tamper Collection offers individual pieces at a higher price point, plus the Moonraker, a rotating WDT tool for anyone who also wants needle distribution before leveling and tamping.
Our opinion: for most Cremina owners, the combination of funnel, leveling ring and tamper is more than enough. Anyone who also wants to distribute every ground with a needle simply pairs this tool with a WDT tool from the Normcore or Weber Workshops collection – the two aren't mutually exclusive.
For Cremina and Cremina SL owners who want to simplify their prep without giving up consistency. Also for anyone who simply wants a piece of Swiss craftsmanship to match their machine on the counter. Anyone who already works with separate tools and prefers to keep doing so loses nothing – both paths lead to a clean puck.
For grind quality: our Grinder Collection. For precise dosing to the tenth of a gram: Acaia scales. For anyone who also wants a WDT tool for fine distribution: Normcore for an affordable option, Weber Workshops Moonraker as the premium choice.
It combines three steps in one tool: the funnel guides the grounds cleanly into the basket, the leveling ring distributes the surface evenly, and the tamper disc then presses down. It's not a needle-based WDT tool, but a stainless steel dosing, leveling and tamping combination.
Need is a strong word. If you just want to make nice espresso with the Cremina, a separate tamper does the job. But if you want to dose, level and tamp in one motion and get visibly more even pucks, you'll notice the benefit.
Functionally, it's the same thing, just in one piece instead of two or three. The advantage is in the workflow: no swapping tools, no hunting for the right tamper diameter. The downside: if you already have a favourite tamper, you gain little by switching.
Tap it out briefly after each use, rinse with warm water if needed, and let it dry completely before putting it away. On a tamping mat or a stand, it stays within reach.

A well-prepped puck gives its best once the basics are already in place: first fresh beans, then a grinder that mills evenly, then a stable brew ratio. Anyone with those three points covered gains, with the Puck Prep Tool, one last bit of consistency in the basket – and that's genuinely fun day to day. Our opinion, one of many.
