A leveler (distributor) in black for 58 mm portafilters, as a step before tamping.
Freshly ground coffee rarely falls evenly into the portafilter. The leveler spreads it flat with a short turning motion before you tamp – so the water flows through the puck more evenly and the extraction becomes more balanced. The tool is made in Italy.
A leveler doesn't replace the tamper, it prepares for it. Whether you need one is up to you – there's no right or wrong; in the end what counts is that the cup tastes good. Our view is one of many.

After distributing comes the tamper, and before that the grinder: grind evenly with our coffee grinders, and pull the shot on your espresso machine. Our advice tool helps you choose.
