WPM ZP-1 – Single Dose Coffee Grinder with 64mm Flat Burrs
Beans in the hopper, dosing cup on the magnetic base, switch on. The WPM ZP-1 grinds dose by dose, steplessly from espresso to French press, and comes apart without tools for cleaning.
The ZP-1 comes from WPM in Hong Kong. Housing in matte aluminium, Italian-made 64mm flat burrs, a brushless 300W DC motor with ten speed settings. Available in black and silver, to buy in Switzerland from us online and in Bern and Zurich.
Features of the WPM ZP-1
Stepless grind adjustment
The ZP-1 takes up little space on the counter and covers a wide range of grind sizes. The adjustment ring is stepless, so the grind can be set precisely for every brew method, from fine espresso to coarse French press. According to WPM, the scale runs from 0 (finest) to 30 (coarsest).
Brushless DC motor with ten speed settings
WPM fits a commercial-grade motor which, according to the manufacturer, runs more quietly and delivers more torque. The speed can be set in ten steps on the control knob. In our experience, a higher speed tends to bring more body, a lower one more aroma. That is our opinion, one of many.
64mm flat burrs from Italy
The 64mm flat burrs are made in Italy. WPM cites a very uniform grind as the basis for extraction. Burr sets are like engines: subjective, there is no objectively best one.
Simple workflow
The dosing cup aligns magnetically on the base, which keeps the counter clean. The knocker on the chute releases remaining grounds so the full dose ends up in the cup.
The details in everyday use
Cleaning in one step
The parts are designed for easy removal. According to the user manual, you turn the hopper with the upper burr anticlockwise to remove it and pull out the chute. Then clean the hopper, burrs and grinding chamber with the supplied brush. WPM recommends a quick clean once a week with daily use, and once a month with occasional use.
Very low retention
Little residue in the grinder allows quick changes of bean and grind size without mixing and without purging. Anti-static pins in the chute reduce clumping. The two tubes holding the anti-static pins should be cleaned regularly with the brush.
Housing in matte aluminium
The aluminium housing is compact and fits on any coffee counter. The black and silver versions differ only in colour.
Upgradable with SSP burrs
Included in delivery is a lower burr carrier for SSP and Mazzer burrs. No carrier change is needed for WPM's own DLC burrs. After every burr change the grinder is recalibrated; the user manual describes the procedure. You can find 64mm sets in our SSP Grinding Solutions collection.
Breaks during continuous use
According to WPM, after two minutes of uninterrupted grinding the ZP-1 should rest for one minute. For single dosing at home this is barely noticeable. WPM offers a bellows separately as an accessory.

Who the ZP-1 is made for
For anyone who grinds dose by dose and switches between espresso, moka, AeroPress, pour over and French press. The stepless adjustment and the speed settings give you room to play, and the low retention makes switching beans easy. We base extraction on weight; 1:2 is a good starting point for espresso.
More grinders from WPM, including the ZP-1 Domus and the KONOS, are in the WPM Wellhome Pro collection, and all models at a glance in our coffee grinders. Our advice tool helps narrow things down, as does a free consultation appointment in the showroom, by phone or virtually.
If you want to compare grinders and machines side by side, book the espresso machine and grinder comparison in the showroom, an option, not a requirement. WPM is on display in Bern. Not every model is set up at all times, so let us know your preferred model in advance at [email protected].
What goes with it
A grinder goes with an espresso machine. In our coffee machines you will find single boilers, heat exchangers and dual boilers, including La Marzocco with a saturated group. The advice tool shows which machine suits you.
For anyone who wants scales that are affordable and precise: the Normcore collection. If you want an app, flow-rate display and Bluetooth: Acaia.
For puck preparation with tamper, WDT tool, puck screen and dosing funnel: affordable and good from Normcore, with more material effort from Weber Workshops. Nobody needs the more expensive one, you either want it or you don't.

Tip from the roastery: For dense, chocolatey espresso from the ZP-1 we roast Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight. Maximum body without acidity comes from Very Nutty. If you want to discover fruity notes, you will find them in Wild Peach, in filter too. That is our recommendation, one of many.
