71 millimetre clamping for tamper bases from 56 to 59 millimetres
This upper clamping ring grips the tamper base from above and keeps it on axis as it lowers. It is designed for tamper bases with a diameter of 56 to 59 millimetres and is matt chrome-plated – the same finish as the lower clamping ring of the same family.
If the clamping works loose, the base shifts a few tenths of a millimetre to the side when tamping. On the puck you see this as a slanted top edge; in a bottomless portafilter, as a stream that starts earlier on one side. Reacting with a finer grind setting means correcting at the wrong end.
When it is due
The tamper base has noticeable play when you move it sideways with the device switched off. Tamping clicks or scrapes. The puck is compressed unevenly on one side. The matt chrome surface of the ring shows scoring or bare spots. Or you have replaced the tamper base and want to renew the clamping at the same time – that is the clean way to do it.

Who it is for
For anyone who uses a PuqPress M3 to M6 every day and wants the tamper unit free of play again. And for service workshops that renew the entire clamping when replacing the base, instead of opening the unit twice.
Important for installation
The ring sits in the moving drive of the tamper. Disconnect the device from the mains and have the tamper unit opened by a qualified technician. The ring must sit perfectly aligned; if it is fitted at an angle, it damages the base and the guide. We deliberately do not provide step-by-step instructions here.
What goes with it
The counterpart is the lower clamping ring for M3 to M6. Also matching: the guide ring 61 × 2.5 mm, the 58 mm and 58.3 mm non-stick coated tamper bases and the category Macap and PuqPress spare parts.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
Our routine, not the manufacturer's: we measure the tamper base before ordering a clamping ring. 58 or 58.3 millimetres both fall within the 56 to 59 range, but if you are coming from a third-party base, you are sometimes off – and a ring that does not grip costs more than a minute with the caliper. After installation we pull three shots and look at the puck. Nutty Delight shows an uneven extraction immediately as sourness, Cozy Chocolate is the milder cross-check, and for milk drinks we use Very Nutty. Everything else is in Coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or test fitting on the device. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
Does the ring fit my tamper base?
It is designed for tamper bases with a diameter of 56 to 59 millimetres. Measure your base if you are unsure, or write to us – we will check it together.
How does this ring differ from the upper clamping ring 1-210-0007-8?
This item specifies 71 mm, the matt chrome-plated version and the tamper base range of 56 to 59 mm. The other number does not specify a size. Both are therefore listed as separate items; how else they differ is not documented to us.
Do I need the lower clamping ring as well?
Not necessarily. If the clamping as a whole is worn out, it is worth replacing both rings in the same job – the unit only has to be opened once anyway.
Is this an electrical part?
No, it is purely mechanical. The drive itself is not part of the delivery and is not supplied here.
Can I see the part in your Showroom?
Yes. We are in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Bring the serial number of your device and we will check the fit together at the counter.
