The surface that makes the puck
The tamper plate is the part of the automatic tamper that actually meets the coffee. Its diameter determines how much of an edge is left, and its surface determines whether the puck releases cleanly from the plate. This version measures 58.3 millimetres and has a non-stick coating.
Wear shows first on the coating. It turns dull, then damp coffee starts to stick, and eventually the surface of the puck tears when the plate moves back up. By then at the latest the plate is due – no recipe can save a torn puck.
When it is due
It is due when coffee sticks to the plate, when the puck surface tears as the plate moves up, when the coating is scratched, worn bare or peeling, or when the edge has taken knocks.

Important for installation
The plate sits on the moving ram. Disconnect the device from the mains before working on it. After the replacement, do a test run with an empty portafilter to make sure the plate moves freely and enters centred. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here.
Who it is for
For bars that work with 58.3 mm – and for anyone who replaces a worn plate instead of compensating for a poor puck with grind size and dose.
What goes with it
We carry the 58 millimetre version as the tamper plate 58 mm. The lower clamping ring and the guide ring for M3 to M6 sit on the same mount. The whole range is under Macap and PuqPress spare parts and under Puqpress.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich
At the end of the day we wipe the plate dry and keep scouring pads and descaler away from it. What kills a non-stick coating is almost always the cleaning, not the coffee – that is our routine, not a manufacturer's specification. We then check with whatever is in the grinder, usually Nutty Delight, otherwise Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty. The full selection is under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced to order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
58 or 58.3 millimetres – which do I take?
That depends on the basket you work with. We carry both sizes; if you are unsure, let us know which basket you are using.
Is the coating food-safe?
The plate is designed as a tamper plate for exactly this purpose. Our documentation gives no further information on the coating, and we do not claim anything beyond that here.
Does it fit all four models?
Our documentation lists it for M3, M4, M5 and M6. It says nothing about older series.
Are fixings included?
The plate is supplied. Whether screws on your device should be replaced as well will become clear on removal.
Can I pick up the part at your shop?
Yes. We are in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a line with the part you need, and we will have it ready for you.
